b16 question

Ok, when I read stuff on this forum, people talk about b16 head swaps. Why would this benefit the car? Like if i put a b16 head on my b18b1 block? And when I read the hp/tq figures, the nubmers are really high for the b16. My friend had a crx (b16) and that thing did not have 100 hp.

enlightenment please

Sebas

If your friends B16A rex didn't have 100 Hp, than it was a fucked up piece of shit and running on three or less cylinders. They comefrom the factory with 160, or 170 depending on origin. But anyway, Hondas Hp figures are at the crank, not the wheel, so you subtract roughly 15% for drivetrain and emissions, and that usually gives you a good wheel figure.

thanks superblue..that really helps!

jcrx- but didn't the crx come with under a 100hp from the factory?

So theoretically, I can take the head of his crx (which is non-vtec i assume) and stick it to make b18b1 block and gain maybe 40 hp or so? Not that i'll actually ever do that, but theortically..and use HIS pistons?

thanks

Yes the CRX came with 160 Hp from the factory, if it came with a B16A, which it did, everywhere except the states. In Europe, Japan, and other places it came with a B16A(1). I don't know what you're talking about, maybe you're confusing a D16 for a B16.
