Sunfire Torque Converter Problem

I have searched the forums and haven't found any other people with the problem I am experiencing. I have a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2L Automatic. The problem started when one day I was driving down the road and the tranny started to slip. Like the engine would rev-up but the car would not go any faster. This only happened a few times until one day the check engine light came on. I also noticed that the torque converter did not lock up anymore. Like that 4th gear was missing. So, I had the code checked at Autozone (free!). The light had something to do with the torque converter malfunctioning. The only work I had done on the tranny was a friend and I changed the fluid and replaced the filter about 6 months before this started. So, I brought the car to the dealer. They changed the fluid and filter (again!!) and also mentioned that the fluid was low when they got it. They cleared the code and I headed out. About 2 days later it came back so I brought it to my mechanic. He replaced the solonoid and said if it did not work then the only thing left to replaced was the converter itself. I left his place and the converter acutally locked up!!! But, it only happened one time The light came back that same day. So, over this past weekend a friend and I replaced the converter. Still no go. The light came back after driving down the highway for about 10 minutes and it still will not lock up. Any idea what else it could be. I am all out of ideas.
