How Much Boost...

How much Boost could a stock B16 take on 91 octane gas.

I plan on running stock Ignition system with the exception of Zex Spark Plugs. The fuel system will consist of a 255lth Fuel Pump, 450cc injectors, AEM Fuel Rail & FPR.

I plan on running a T3/T4 turbo the wastgate comes with a 8psi spring... is 8psi too much ?

thanks

Stock b16a's can handle 10psi safely with ample fuel and GOOD TUNING, but 8psi is good for the street. As for you fuel system, ditch the rail. Your stock fuel rail can support up to 500hp. Also I see you are planning on using 450cc injectors, your car is going to run rich unless you get some kind of engine management, the stock ecu cant idle those very well. That will also keep you from needing an adjustable fpr. Between the rail and the fpr you can save about $300 and put it towards an engine managment device of your chosing, I recommend hondata (base $450) or at least an afc. At the VERY least an fmu although it will still idle rich and shitty with the 450cc.

The apexi setup is what i use now. It is pretty good for up to 10psi with the 450cc's. I would still recommend getting it dyno tuned with the afc. You won't have precision tuning like you would with most other EMS but it's good on the street and for the price. In my experience, I would recommend just getting the apexi safc rather than the vafc. Changing the vtec crossover isn't going to net you much of anything under boost worth the extra money.

you should be able to run up to 10psi if properly tuned, make sure fuel is there. upgrading your cooling sytem and a oil cooler can help to keep reliable

so if i were to build a b20/vtec sleeved, pistons, rods, cams, etc.....with drag 3 turbo.....what should i have in terms of fuel and engine management? i was thinking a hondata s200, 510cc injectors(too small?), aem feul rail, what type feul pump?, and what else for my fuel and engine management? what all would i need in you guys' opinions?

thanks alot

Well with a setup like that, you could run 20something psi tuned so you would need a good standalone. The hondata is a great choice for the money, but from all the feedback I have heard, people really like the aem ems. A bit pricey but I am told its worth it. As for the injectors, I'd definatley go bigger if you want to run some serious boost. You might want to look into upgrading the rest of the head with a b20 setup like that. I'd go with the aem rail at that point and a 255lph in tank should be sufficient with an inline to be safe. If it were my fuel system, I would do all new fuel lines and everything.

First, I wanted to tell you that's one of the funniest sigs I've seen on here, lol. Second, I just wanted to say you know your stuff when it comes honda's as well as turbocharging, keep up the good work. It's always nice to see threads were people are helping other AF members out instead of bashing on them.

Thanks for the props but I can't take all the credit. I have learned mostly from experience whether the easy way or the hard. But there are quite a few very knowledgable people on AF with various kinds of cars that are just as willing to help. I come here for help so in return I help when I can and thats what it is all about.

I know this is a little late but since we installed this kit on my car, my car leans out at after 5 psi of boost so I have to do all of those things to keep this car from blowing up. I was thinking some DSM injectors from an old eclispe (blue top 450 cc's), the resistor box that converts them, a VAFC or SAFC, and maybe a FPR (AEM). My question is, if you can explain why tuning your vtec lower will not be worth the extra little money that it costs for the VAFC?

And should I use some used injectors from a turbo eclispe? Now let's remember, practally this whole kit is used so suggesting new parts will not help me any. I just want to reach 8-10 lbs without leaning out. Can somebody help me?

Got it tuned, having mad fun running 8-9 psi.

B18C1 is on the back burner as I play with this setup for a while.

I got my injectors of a 98 or 99 gst for $50, has them balanced and flow tested with near perfect results. You do need some sort of ems and a adjustable FPR is not necessary. I didnt say lowering the vtec crossover wouldnt have any effect, just not eough to warrant spending the extra money. Hell even the NA guys will tell you to save your money. Leave it where it is intended to be set at unless you are prepared to spends lots of time on the dyno.
