I am removing the motor from my 90 daytona 3.0 and putting it in my 89.
I got the 90 from a junk yard and a savage title was unavailable. If anybody has any extra info. for this swap, it would be greatly apricieted. I am also trying to put the 90 model dash into the 89. i have already put the center consul (and the hand e-brake in, but i can not put the dash in until i swap motors due to the trans. ratio for the speedometer. Any comments or corrections?

I can see your premis since the 90+ interior looks about ten time better than the 89 and below. However; why are you wanting to swap the 3.0L? Anyhow; you can do it. How had it will be depends on what engine was in the 89 to begin with.

That's why i wanted to change the int. It looks so much better. The 89 had a mostly mismatched 2.5 motor in it and i wanted to have a bigger motor. The v6 was the cheapest and in the best condition ,so i thought. Sooner or later i should have the v6 up and running. Thanks for the help.

Sure.
Since the old engine was the 2.5L you're going to have to modify the motor mount locations for it to fit. You will also have to swap over all the wiring and the trasmission as the transmission you have in there now won't bolt on. You can do it but it won't be easy. |

Polygon is right. You should stick with a 2.5, or even better get a turbo 2.2 in there. Thats where the real power is. Find a turbo 2.2(88-up T2) or even a turbo 2.5 would be a lot cheaper and you will be faster than dropping that 3.0 V6 in. The V6 requires more work, and the turbo engines require less and have WAY more potential. Add an intercooler and turn the boost up, thats 225 HP without any other mods besides opening up the exaust.

i wanted the v6 because that is what i can afford without a lot of extras. The 2.5 is hard to get parts for because it is mismatched with other dodge cars. The parts are just slightly different and makes it hard to buy parts. I knew i would have to change motor mounts but that is easy compared to computer changes and wiring harnesses.

When you make the swap from 2.5l to 3.0, all of the engine bay harness will have to be swapped over. I would basically rewire the whole car as you will need all of the interior wiring for your interior swap. The door panels on the inside will also be very different. You may have to cut out the door skins and reweld them on the new car. Either that or have at it with the sawsall taking material off and add mounting points where nessesary.

what would you need to replace/upgrade if you were to put a 2.2L turbocharged in to replace an 2.5L TBI (normal aspiration)? Is there a high chance that you might trash the car in the change??
I want to upgrade from a 2.5L to a 2.2L or 2.5L turbocharged (2.2L i guess are easier to get ahold of and are a bit faster than 2.5L turbocharged, but i would go with 2.5L if i found it first) in a 89 Daytona ES thanks for your help |

Thats right, it wasn't the dodge garage, it was dereks garage:
http://members.rogers.com/derek.beland/ On the left side just scroll down until you see ''TBI to turbo''. And there you go. |

I've done it, you need the turbo engine, the icu, and then theres a power module under the hood, 2 big plugs going in your intake somewhere, u need that box, the one for the non turbo is different, and you'll run into problems
without it. u also need the underdash wirirng harness, and all the vacume lines and harness under the hood, and 4 vacume solinoids. If you have a donor car it's really easy, just look at whats there, take it off and bolt it on yours. As far as your interior goes, your guages will still work with the four cylinder. The transmission is the same for the v6 and the 2.2. the only difference was the bell housing, so the ratio is the same!!

gotcha, the only thing i dont understand is.. whats an icu, is it another name for the engine computer, or intercooller? He says on the guide if you use stock transaxle for a 2.5 TBI with a 2.2 turbocharged you'll smoke the tires very easy, cuase the ratios were set higher to compensate for the lower tourque, is this true?
ok so heres a list of what you said i needed: turbo engine ICU power module underdash wiring harness all vaccum lines and harnesses underhood 4 vaccum solinoids that it? |
