'90 525 Intermittent Speedometer

My speedometer often doesn't start working until I've driven a couple miles. Also, sometimes it stops working after coming to a traffic stop etc.

Any ideas what's wrong? How to fix?

The gears inside the speedos slip when they are old, and cause problems like your describing. have the speedo rebuilt.
