Crank Pulley Problems

I finally finished putting the head on my civic, now we are trying to put the timing belt on and this crank pulley bolt is hard to get off. Any ideas on what I should do??

impact gun.....the only way i do it!

I cant remember who gave me this tip but it works...

Put #1 piston at bottom dead center..make sure valves are closed..fill cylinder with nylon rope then get a real big bar...did mine this weekend..worked great

i just used an impact but i had to turn the air pressure up from stock 90 to 120

Never heard of the rope in the cylinder, but i suppose it would work...we have a special tool at the dealership that locks into the crank pulley so it wont turn... but usually an impact with about 600 ft lbs of torque will loosen em right up...

thanks folks, I had to go to my old house and get our compressor. The impact gun took it right off. Everythings in tact now. It is now ready to be put on the road. I will have some update pics up soon.

if you don't have an impact there are 2 other methods. if the engine is still in the car then have someone step on the break. if it is out of the car then use a screwdriver (or whatever) and stick it through the holes of the crank pulley to chalk it in place.

of course an impact works the best

I tried the 'In gear, foot on brake' method, with no luck.
Finally got my neighbor to bring his compressor and impact gun. Still now luck. He finally dragged over his 150 PSI compressor, and whoood'n! Off it came!
