question about car insurance claims

I don't think this is the right spot for an insurance claim question but i didn't see anywhere better to post it.

anyway I've got 2 questions:

Earlier this year I was involved in a very minor accident while driving my girlfriend's car. I lightly hit the side of another car on the passenger door.. .there was very minimal damage (small dent in other car door and some scratches on my car's bumper). there were no injuries at all. the other driver said she was going to report it to the collision reporting centre, so my girlfriend and I went and filled out the report as well that day.

My girlfriend did not notify her insurance company about the accident, because she had no intention of going through insurance on any sort of repairs because they were so minor. We are not sure if the other driver has gone through their insurance for the damage to their car (again, a small dent in the passenger door).

my girlfriend has heard that because she did not notify her insurance company about the accident, they can cancel her policy. to this day she has not received any notice from her company on this matter. her policy renews in november and she is concerned that they will cancel her policy.

I have another question:

my girlfriend's mom let her cousin use her car (she has no insurance so she'd be covered under her mom's policy). she was rear ended today and she wants to make a medical/personal injury claim against the other driver/insurance company. what i want to know is if her filing an injury claim will affect the mother's insurance rates? she has a lawyer working on a claim for her for another injury so she wants to go through him to file the claim, however does this still involve the insurance company of the car she was driving? if so then i'm assuming rates will go up.
