those damn SRT-4's

i was waiting at an intersection to pull out on the highway a few days ago and this guy in a new dodge neon SRT-4 stops (with a whole bunch of cars behind him) and waves to me to pull out. I knew what he wanted me to do so I got on it up to about 90 mph. I knew right from the start that I didn't have a chance but I didn't think those things were THAT fast. That guys was so close to my ass and I never gained an inch on him. He passed me after a while and just took off. I think he might have had the mopar stage one kit on it but I don't know for sure. Well I'm gonna borrow my friends WRX in a few days and try to find the guy for a re-match. As long as it's dry out he'll still win but if it's raining the AWD will eat up his FWD screamer. Unfortunatly my friend wrecked his first 300 HP WRX and the one he got is still stock cause his old one would have eaten the SRT-4 alive.

I agree those little cars are fast, I love them IO want one so bad, I saw 2 of them run on friday at the track the first guy was a really shitty driver, when the light went green he sat there like he wasn't paying attention then hebogged the car, he pulled like 15.5 the second guy did MUCH better he pulled a 13.99, and at this elevation that is awesome, I have no idea what he had done to his car, if anything.

They are fast when it comes to power-to-weight ratio and they are relatively inexpensive for what you get. However, I don't like the design of Neons.

Actually, for stock 4 cylinders, Neons are pretty quick. My first car was a '95 Dodge Neon, and I raced my friend's '91 Honda Prelude (non v-tec), it was a stick, mine an automatic, and I won. I also raced my friend's Ford Contour (it was an automatic), beat that, and my friend's '90 Mustang (4 cylinder, and a stick, but still a win:). I also raced my friends 350 Chevy (not sure what model or anything, but it's automatic), we raced from a 20 punch, and I was keeping up with him, on his bumper the whole time until we slowed down at about 90 or 95. Oh, and I raced my friend's '00 Ford ZX2, also an automatic, and beat him. And BTW, all of these cars were stock, except for my friend's 350 chevy, he had an aftermarket exhaust (dual exhaust).

Yeah...who gives a fuck...its a big slow piece of american made plastic.

However, I do have to admit I like the SRT-4, 13's out of the box, for under 20k, hard to beat that...but any other neon...

Re: those damn SRT-4's

More like who gives a shit, its turbo charged four cylinder american plastic pos and an s2000 can keep up with its non-turbo four cylinder. Sounds like honda knows how to make sports cars a lil better than dodge, and thats except the dodge vipers. Now those are fast.

ok, well lets see, take the difference in price of the two cars, apply that to the SRT-4 in performance parts, and watch it scare the s2000 back the garage with its tailpipe between its tires.

Actually, it all depends on the motor he had on his Neon. The 150HP DOHC motor automatically made any Neon it went into a 15-second car, especially since the TQ-curve on that motor is quite similar to my SE-R's SR20DE...meaning it's flat as hell.

There were the lightweight ACR and R/T versions, which were mid/low 15-second cars, but unknown to most, the quickest stock, N/A Neon was the Neon Highline 4-dr, with the DOHC option...it was actually the LIGHTEST Neon made...even lighter than the 'lightened' ACR (the ACR's extra-bracing and suspension tweaks to make it a 'Club Racer' probably brought it over the top).

I was just commenting, hondaracer. No need to be a prick. I thought I would just let everyone in on my knowledge of the car, since most people on this forum most likely have not driven one, seeing as its a Honda/Acura forum. '95 was the first year for Neons, and they didn't have any different trims or anything, just the basic 4 dour, perhaps a 2 door, I can't remember, but the engines are all the same. 132 hp.

And Venom, yes, there is a way I did that well...Nothing done to the car, completely stock. Maybe it was magical, it was the only neon I've ever driven before. I'm just telling you what I've experienced, I'm not trying to show off what I did in my dad's nine year old Dodge Neon...I always thought it was slow until I raced people, I realized it was kind of quick, for the engine size and hp output. But, Neons are very light cars.

alright guys i am about to admit something that i am not proud of... I was once a '96 neon driver actually i'm driving my neon right now until i finish working on my teg

but seriously when i bought the car 3 or four years ago i thought it was great and quick . I installed an intake and exhaust lowered it, and believe it or not i could keep up with 94+ gs-r's from a rolling start(never tried from a stop). unfortuneately dodge's poor engineering during those years led to that car being slower than a one legged kid on a bycicle now. with the bolt ons the computer started throwing engine codes, and shit, 5spd tranny blew a hole right through the case and left the tranny fluid all over the high way. The car is just put together cheap, and it feels like it will fall aprt around you when driving.anyway to make a long story short even if they are kinda quick the fact is it is just a 10,000 dollar economy car and it won't stay quick for long...
did i mention that mine only had 70,000 miles on it...

as for the new srt-4 i have no idea I still have yet to see one...

Heh, I wouldn't think a Neon would have any part that was engineered to be able to handle more hp But on my '95, it never had any aftermarket parts put on it, and it was never driven hard (except for the few times I raced with it), and it hasn't broken down once since my dad bought it in '95 (he bought it brand new). It was also well taken care of, though. Regular oil changes and all of the maintenance. But yeah, I imagine if my dad drove it hard all of the time and raced it alot, it probably wouldn't have lasted very long at all.

Oh, something funny I thought I'd mention My friend just bought a '96 Neon, and it has an intake, exhaust, and a turbo. But wait, here comes the real funny part, those are all of the parts that are on it, no bov, no intercooler, no wastegate, no nothing. No upgraded engine parts, completely stock besides the cold air intake, exhaust, and turbo. This thing is a 5 speed, but it doesn't have a tach, and it doesn't even have a pressure gauge for the turbo , I'm just waiting for the thing to blow up like a nuclear bomb
