zc head
i ran into a guy the other day who said he had a zc dohc head that would bolt right up to my stock d16a6, is this true? he said $100.00 bucks for it, does this sound like a good deal and what kind of gains am i looking at?

Even though both engines are d series you can not bolt a dohc head to a sohc block. If you want to get more power by puting a new head on your a6, you can throw on a sohc vtec head from a y8 or z6.

yeah the sohc non vtec zc head would be a little better. I have heard it is rated at 118 hp compared tot he a6 at 108 so that is better. why don't you just stick with the a6 and build it? Also why wouldn't you want vtec for turbo?

after you guys told me that i called the guy and he claims he didnt say that but i asked him about the zc sohc head and he said $75 for that does that sound reasonable and would there be a decent increase in power or would it even be worth it. also in the long run is this gonna good or bad if i go turbo?

well the zc sohc has a slightly larger cam than the a6...also you would be able to work the head...ive seen 13hp gains on mild p&p on the a6 heads....id get it if it were jdm zc head...

VTEC isnt necessarily harder to tune, especially with the sohc vtec + turbo. all you do is activate VTEC before the turbo spools so you basically just use it for the bigger cam.
Although VTEC is a high lift/high duration cam, as opposed to a high lift/low duration cam like a true turbo cam, the extra valve lift offered by VTEC will give you more power with a turbo than with a non vtec sohc head. |
