96 gsr racing a 96 M3

my friend just bought a 96 M3 with just under 90K on it. i have a 96 GSR with 80K, neither of them have any mods. both of them are 5-speed. we drag raced and i beat him by about a car length, although we didn't go a full 1/4 mile. i consider myself an OK driver, and i thought he was a good driver. Im just wondering, is this on driver skill or is a 170 hp GSR really faster than a 240 hp M3. he claims that there was some traction control thing on that he can't turn off, but i donno. i drove his car after and it felt dam fast. plus, ive beat him at stop lights and shit too. i really wasnt expecting to beat him, but i wanted to know if i should have. what do u guys think?

he should have crushed you. obviously he sucks as driving. even w/ traction control a car full of people and a trunk full of bricks he should have beat you.

An M3 should dominate you anyway you slice it. even if he gave you a lead he should still stomp you. he probly just isn't used to the car yet if he just bought it. but even then he shouldn't have lost by a car length... unless he stalled or something.

yeah I have a friend that has a 97 m3 and it killed my friends car that runs 14.7. Something is wrong there.......

just like everyone else said, he shouldve handed your ass to you. Maybe you should drive his car and he should drive yours and maybe that'll tell you a different story..

he could suck at driving, and he should still be able to beat you in his m3. m3s got 0-60 anywhere from 5.5 to 6 sec, the earlier ones were slightly faster. quarter mile is about 14 sec. the 95 has a 3.0L engine, and the ones above it(96-99) has the 3.2 for the e36 m3s, they all have the same hp though.

96 M3s have 3.2 liter engines with 240 hp, and are generally said to have a 6-6.5 0-60, ive heard mostly 6.4. quarter mile, high 14s. still should beat a GSR, but not TOO quick. it handles like a dream tho. well, we are switching cars this weekend and racing, so well see, maybe im a better driver than i thought.

alright if the 96 m3 is that fast, then u might have a chance against it, the reason why u were able to beat him, plus he just got it right. so he doesnt know his car as well as u might know urs, he probably doesnt know how to take off on his car. if someone explained it to him, or told him how to do it, then maybe he might be quicker. its not like anyones gonna just get it right away, or just all of a sudden happen to know how to do it right, or drive it right. usually if u read about it, listened to someone, or u if u talk about car a lot, then your gonna have the edge on someone who doesnt. if hes slower after practicing, getting used to, and learning about how to drive it right, then you might be the better driver. but i dont think that time u put up is correct, or wherever u got it, they might of made a mistake. high 14s? you sure thats correct? i mean does it tell you if the car was an automatic or a manual? if u got it from car and driver, or some other well known mags, or books, or wherever, then i might believe u. but if its off some internet site with a bunch of times, or whatever, then im gonna have some doubts.

I have a 94 M3 Turbo with Neuspeed Hookup and I ate my neighbors 2003 Ferrari Spyder.

My 0-60 is 2.1
His is 4.0

I have raced many GSR before, and never lost. The normal GSR 0-60 is 7.1.

So for all thoose who think you can beat a M3, think again. The only stock car that can beat my M3 is a Honda S2000. Those are sweet cars!

I call Bull Sh*t on that. There is no way your m3 is gong 0-60 in 2.1 sec. unless you got that thing mad build and then some. Are you sure you didn't type that wrong? I dont mean to flame you, but I find that pretty hard to believe.

2.1? please. we are not stupid. the only car that quick is the new porsche GT in europe and if you do happen to have that M3 built so much as to run 2.1 0-60 then a stock s2000 will never touch it.

0-60- 4.6 sec

and this is the newest m3 with over 300hp not the older one with 240

So i doubt yours can accelerate 0-60 in 2.1 sec
