Progress in pinpointing the issue
After more than 40 cumulative hours of work by both professional server techs and myself, we have been able to finally pinpoint the problem. It appears to reside with a faulty mysql query that is initially executed for every page by every user while they are browsing the message board. On the current setup of running everything on one server, this query takes
0.015040993690491 secondskeep in mind that this is with dozens if not a hundred concurrent users accessing the message board at the same time. However, this exact same query takes 1.5099580287933 secondsto execute on the new database server when there is absolutely no one except for myself accessing the database. This is most likely why the server choked whenever we tried to switch to using the remote database. I am hoping to have the second server running without issues by the end of today. Wish us luck!

Hey
I used to run a decent website with a forum and also had a mySQL database and when I first set it up it was hell  but then I got there and im sure you will too. Thanks for trying to get us all the best service, keep it up friendly admin!

Gotta say I am not a big fan of mySQL yet. I’ve spent to much time in MSSQL, Oracle and I’ve spent to much time in MSSQL, Oracle and Interbase then mySQL. Open source is ok, but it does have its limitations and support issues that you don’t get with the others.
Hope everything works out tuning the server. Looking forward to the better and faster AF

UPDATE:
The theory on how to fully resolve the issue has been perfected and all that is left now is to execute it. PHP will need to be recompiled with some special options and the coding required for the change should be done sometime tomorrow.
