How did Subaru get to be so cool?
Subaru is one amazing car company. But how did they get to be the way they are today? They have an amazing formula for cars: safe, economical, and sporty-like-crazy rides.
I'm sorry. I just had a Subaru blast to the head and had to wax poetic about it. Scoobies rock. Here's a brief synopsis of some of the cooler Subes I've seen lately: * A lowered Subaru Outback up at the Palisades Mall by I-287 * Various Subaru Bajas in the greater Upper Perkiomen Valley, PA * More than a few Subaru Impreza Stis in Quakertown and the Lehigh Valley * And a few tasteful Subaru Impreza 2.5RS (prior to the 2002 m.y.) Anyone suppose there's a way to get a Subaru for payments of less than $180 monthly with an MSRP of $18,000 or less? ![]() later, slippers2k aka Inspector Gadget

Easily. They started out cool and stayed that way.
The first step was creating the 360, which is not only unusual in looks, but also in engineering, it was the best selling car in Japan for many years. Next the created the 1000/FF-1 Japan's "first" front wheel drive car (Suzuki had actually beaten them too it by several years though) which utilized some more unusual engineering, such as inboard brakes, and a flat-four engine loosely inspired by Germany's Hansa/Goliath FWD cars. Thankfully Subaru stuck with the flat-4 which is probably what makes their cars so cool from an engineering standpoint. Subaru's cars always looked pretty cool, after all is there any vehicle that looked so cool as the Brat? (even if it was an "ugly" sort of cool)

The strong points of there design have created an extremely loyal following up here in Alaska. Economy, longevity, safety, practicality, and now performance. It doesn't get much better.

Re: How did Subaru get to be so cool?
why lower an outback? the whole idea of an outback is the off-roadedness. lower a regular legacy in my opinion.
but anyway, subaru has been around a nd cool before people started to notice them on gran turismo. but people who want a soob now, but cant afford one are buying older soobs, ones that they would have never known about if it werent for the recent popularity of newer soobs |
