Unhappy What can i do with my gear box???

Hello all!
I really have a problem.
I own a 1993 alfa romeo 33 1.7 16v.
It has a boxer engine.
I got a Garret T3 on it with intercooler and some other stuff.
It is near the 200 CV.
But of course, the gear box got broken twice allready.
I have send my car to Buenos Aires to get someone modify the box with some racing gears. But I had no luck, since the box got broken twice while testing it. And I don't know if they will get it to work at all.
So if someone can help me on any way, I will try to find anybody on this world who can build me a gear box or tell me what to do, or sell me the needed parts OR ANYTHING!!!!

Im geting desperate!

Thanks guys.

Weak gearboxes is a common problem when you begin to modify most cars. The best advice I can give is to try to adapt or modify a readily available but strong gearbox to your application. A common conversion is to use the Toyota Supra / Celica W55 or W58 transmission, these will handle around 400HP, are easy to find at local wrecking yards, and there are a number of companies making adapter plates to fit these to various engines.

Do some searching on the internet, I know a company in Australia called Dellows makes conversion bellhousings http://www.dellowauto.com.au/ . Another transmission candidate would be the Tremec T5 (also called teh Borg Warner T5) this trany is available with many different gear ratios and power handling ratings. I am using a Ford Racing close ratio T5 behind the 302 V8 in my Volvo, the ratios are excellent, the trany is compact and light and it would be easy to adapt to many different engines

Good luck

Re: What can i do with my gear box???

the T5 is cheap and only good for engines producing less than 350lb-ft. which should be fine for your alfa romeo, but likely a bit heavy-duty for an engine that small.
Generally speaking, smaller companies like Alfa are owned by larger automakers, and large automakers love to share parts. so find out which other cars had the same engine/transmission and go with that route.
oh, and for the record, the markIV Supra manual can handle up to 650lb-ft without damage. Due to it beaing a turbocharged car, that is usually between 900-1,000hp. It is one of the best manual transmissions available.
