High performance cross drilled rotors and pads now available for the X

Posted this earlier in the XOC... Make do with it what you will:

I know the usefulness of this mod has been a hotly debated issue given the X's brakes are already quite good... but, just to let you know, there is now an aftermarket provider. It's getting to be about that time, so am going to try this set out... Hell, it's cheaper than OEM too!

Powerstop and Axxis MetalMaster are now producing a set of replacement high performance combination cross-drilled/slotted rotors and semi-mettalic brake pads for the Xterra. My rotors probably don't need to be replaced, but what the hell.

Here's the scoop:
Powerstop Cross-Drilled/Slotted Rotor Part Number:
JBR756XL (Left)
JBR756XR (Right)
$99.00 Each

Autospecialty 911 Extreme Performance Pads Part Number:
248301
$40.18 for the front set.

They have metallics for the rears too, but I don't quite need them yet. Not sure on part numbers. Whole front end replacement upgrade, under $250 with shipping.

I got them at
Olympic Import Performance Parts, based out of Alexandria VA. Super cool on the phone and cheap too. Shipping rates are excellent too.
Call Liz at 1-800-370-0041 if you want some.

Affordable

Now that is affordable! Don't really think you need the cross-drill and slotted rotors for offroading but if it improves stopping distance on pavement, I'd replace my rotors with these aftermarket rotors if they ever became warped and couldn't be turned down.

Nice find! I wish I'd known about this before paying $100 for stock pads.

Here is the official scoop

that I got when I inquired about buying a set.
<the following was copied from my e-mail response, the customer name was edited>
Craig,
Thanks for your interest. I'll explain the situation and how "we" plan to take care of any interested parties. The gentleman that posted this information on these sites was a person that I had spoken with about these rotors way back in July. At the time of our initial conversation I was finally able to determine a part number for the rotors from Autospecialty/Power Stop.............but they (Autospecialty/Power Stop) had not yet determined a selling price. I was finally given a set of selling price "guidelines" and based the initial selling price for the rotors to this one customer at $99 each from these initial guidelines. Once the rotors finally arrived I was in sort of a "sticker shock" that the price to me had jumped dramatically!
The honorable thing to do at that time was to honor the price as quoted to the customer. The honorable thing to do at this time is to honor the price of $99 as it has been posted. With some stipulations. We are willing to honor this $99 price (and it's a GREAT price) up and until January 31st of 2002. After that date there will be a price increase and the $99 price will not longer be available. I've contacted the gentleman that posted this (***** *********) to make him aware of the change. I've asked him to re-post the additional information and you may want to do the same as well.
Please note the following. These rotors are "still" very limited in availability and are still a special order item. I currently have none in stock at this time and I have only two sets currently available to me within a 2-5 day delivery time (to me). Any orders for these at this time would have to be paid for in advance via credit card and shipped "upon availability". Shipping charges would be additional (and billed to the credit card once the items are shipped) and we only charge what it actually costs to ship, either by UPS or Fed Ex. However, shipping rotors can still be pretty pricey. Two rotors shipped to California, for example, can run as much as $25-40 in freight....or more, and this is something that should be kept in mind. Finally, the brake pads listed for these rotors ARE NOT the Autospecialty 911 Extreme Performance pads. There are still no performance pads available for this application that we've been able to locate from any of our suppliers.
I'm sorry for the confusion and I hope that this clears this up somewhat. Let me know if I can be of further help to you on this.

Sincerely,

Ralph

If you want them, order now or you will be paying more in the future.

Craig

Wow, try do something cool for someone...

Thanks for the post Craig...

I updated my post on the XOC. I tried to make a more politically correct post to prevent any negative press due to an honest mistake. Please review it here:

http://www.xterraownersclub.com/cgi-...c&f=4&t=001013

Now, I have a few comments here.

First, I was not made aware of these pricing issues upon my purchase. I called and asked if they had anything available in brakes and rotors for X a few months ago, Ralph said he had some Powerstop cross drills available. He called me back with the price of $99 each. I said cool and ordered up. I also posted this information 3 months ago on the XOC. Hell, Jackel bought a set of them too! Haven't had time to install yet, but was planning on it in the next two weeks. I decided to call again and ask if any afetrmarket brakes had emerged on the market. Liz told me she had some 911 performance pads (from Liz's mouth, I asked explicitly!) available to match my rotors... Super cool! So I order those up too! The pads arrived yesterday and they were not 911 pads, but were semi- metallic, so I just annotated that on the XOC post and forgot about it.

I even told Liz my intention of making this information available (asking for all part numbers) on the boards and to prepare for some phone calls. She was so delighted she threw in a nice Olympic T shirt!

I then received a similar but more polite email from Ralph concerning this issue after I sent him a courtesy message showing them this original post. I then promptly made a very complimentary and PC adjustment to my post on the XOC (listed above) to eliminate any confusion.

Now... the email Craig received seemed quite inflamatory towards my efforts. Why am I the Jackass? I was trying to help these guys out and drive some business thier way for thier courteous service. I'm not sure what (**** *******) means, but i would like to know. Craig if you would be kind enough to forward me the email i'd appreciate it. That may determine if I give these guys anymore business! That's a bunch of shit. I didn't have to do this. I was simply making the community aware of what was available and help these guys out.

Ahhhh I'm pissed. Craig, what does (**** *****) mean!

See if I try to help out a fledgling business again!

No sweat

the ******* was my doing as I didn't think I should post your name without speaking with you first. This was the full e-mail text, I just took your name and edited with asterisks so you wouldn't hate me for life for posting your name.

Don't take any of this the wrong way, I think they made a mistake and admitted it and have done the best they could with the situation. I applaud your efforts as I'm sure others do for bringing attention to getting us more products. I personally didn't feel anything was meant to be inflammatory.

So in the final analysis, it's all good. :flash: Carry on Brother Kennedy.

Wink Word...

I got a call from the general manager of the store today. He was delighted about the review, but quite distraught over the negative implications in this post. After explaining what happened, here's my deduction:

It seems Olympic and I have had a relative breakdown in communication, nothing any more interesting that that.
Hey, mistakes happen... All is well now, and I still support their business. No harm no foul!

These guys have bent over backwards for me. Before purchasing I had a series of questions. These guys have called me back three seperate times in the past two days to confirm and answer my questions. I've never seen service like that for a $240 purchase.

BTW, after beefing about the price increase I was informed that the price increase would not be as dramatic as earlier thought... Expect them to go up to no more than $120 each in February (which is still cheaper than OEM stock I believe).

There ya go! Who takes care of ya?
