BMW Vs Lexus

Just wondering what everyone thinks about the comparison with bmw and lexus..

I was atfirst going to get the iS300.. When i first saw it, i liked the altezza lights and just how the shape of the car looked (sporty).. In white, that car seemed preetty nice.. however, when i got in it, the interior wasn't that classy and comfortable.. I felt rather cramped and the back was too small (323 size almost).. As for the stereo, it was pretty damn good for factory (levinson).. The shiftknob looked cool but i think it would get really hot in the summer (sun beamin down on it) so that might be a b#tch!

However my friend drives me aroudn in his bimmer sometimes and i've grown to love it.. the stereo meets up to the Lexus' and i found it was much more roomier and comfortable. The look of the interior is stylish yet classy. Unfortunately, i haven't been in an e46 with a manual transmission so i can't say anything for that yet, but for steptronic, it was smooth in automatic and alright for sport.. However i thought that it didnt' feel close to a manual transmission, but felt actually quite jerky.. maybe it was the driver, but my friend wasn't feelin to good to start off with and during the drive he got nauseous! hahaha..

anyway, what's your thoughts? Is lexus more worth it or not?

i tried a 325xi, 330xi, is300. the 330xi was definitly more fun to drive. the is300 looks more aggressive but the bmw is the ultimate driving machine. the lexus acceration and brake was good but is no match for the 330xi. the bmw response much quicker and the interior feels more expensive.

Every comparison that has pitted the 330 against the is300 has said that the Lexus is nice but no cigar. Nobody in the same class can beat the BMW in performance.

Actually, BlackMansWish, I believe that the Mark Levinson sound system is only offered in the SC430 and the LS430. The IS300 comes with a 240-watt Nakamichi sound system, it is indeed very good. As for a comparison, yes the IS is a very competent machine with a strong I-6, powerful brakes and sharp styling. However, it still isn't a BMW!!!

just test drove the is300 last weekend.

330 is better all around except maybe in base options.

the sound system is not levinson and it cannot get the levinson even with their addon packages (even the salesman didnt know why).

the acceleration was no where near the 330 even though the is300 has 215hp.

I liked just about everything that is offered, but the 330 is still above it in my list.

Re:

I would say BMW would be your best choice. The car is like a fine-tuned watch. So much detail, it's just a great machine. The IS300, I just hate. I don't like the way it looks, it's almost like it was made to appeal to teenagers who like to fix up their cars with rims an lower them and stuff. Just doesn't look classy to me. I would say go for the bimmer.
Just my $0.02.

Take care,
-Aero

I agree with everyone so far on getting the 330i. I can personally relate to this thread because I own a 330, and my friend drives a IS300. The IS is almost 10k less then the 330, but priced at only 31,000 I think the IS is definitely a awesome value. If you're stuck between the IS or a 325, then I would say the IS is a better choice, but the 330 will just own the IS. You really can't say much about Lexus quality, it has a great reputation, all their car are nicely built.

The BMW will drive well for a lot LONGER than the Lexus. Japanese cars may be more reliable, but they really loosen us after 60-70k miles. At least in my experiance, which includes an Acura Legend and Lexus I300.

The BMW will wear much better, will stay tight for longer (isn't that what we all want?). I've driven older Japanese luxury sports sedans (Acura Legend, Lexus I300) and they loosen up after a while.

Re: BMW Vs Lexus

Everyone agrees that the BMW 330i would completely own the is300. That seems to be unanimous. But can someone compare in more detail the 325i with the lexus is300? I seem to have to choose between those two cars.

There was a recent C&D comparo of the 325i and the IS300 (as well as the TL, G35, 9-3 Arc, and the A4 quattro) The 325i placed second behind the G35 (they cited power as the main reason...). The IS300 placed 4th. The BMW has the best handling of any car in the class, especially with the stiffened suspention in the sport package. I know C&D is far from perfect, but I think this comparison was pretty accurate.
Another comparo in R&T using almost all the same cars found similar results.
