Superchargers...

Is there anywhere out there that you can buy a supercharger for the Grand Prix? It's actually a replacement. Or is there any place that rebuilds them, or sells a rebuild kit? The one in our GTP (97) is starting to grawl, and we were told by Pontiac that the supercharger is on it's way out. The only thing that we can believe to go bad with one are the bearings, so there has to be a rebuild kit, or a way to get a new one. Thanks for the help.

The coupler could be going. Does it sound worse in the snout or in the housing??

Check out www.clubgp.com for write ups and you could also pick up a used blower on the classifieds for alot cheaper than what a dealer will charge.

You could try replacing the coupler with http://www.zzperformance.com/zzp/pro...sc_coupler.htm

Also check out http://www.magnusonproducts.com/remanufacturing.htm

I know how you feel, about 2 months ago I rebuilt my SC. replaced all of the bearings.

go here http://www.indycgp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12

there are a few links

on the third link remember there is a 2nd page with the correct part #'s

My suggestion is to rebuild it yourself,

buy the bearings, and the seal, take the nose off the SC. take the pully off the nose, and then take it to the Machine shop and tell them to replace the bearings and the seal. it cost me like $30 to have them do it. the whole job cost me like $100, but I replaced the bearings and the seal, and the coupler. remember to buy 2 bottles of SC oil.

ok, i was driving my gtp today and when it goes into boost, car wants to die!! car runs fine until you try to spin some boost into it, then bad news! so can this be complete blower failure, or just the snout part? i am at a new to superchargers, so i am going to take it to the dealer to see what they say. i put in new plugs and a fuel filter just to see what it would do. the car only has 72,xxx on it! how long do the superchargers last? well, i will see what they say and maybe prepare for blower r&r. any ideas?

Same thing happened to my 98 GTP...after a whole day in the shop w/diagnostics, no solution. I drive it home, attempt to boost and it dies. Nurse it back to the shop, they put a fuel pressure gauge on it and it turns out to be the fuel pump is dying. Should be an easy fix except that it is a modular unit and the whole module must be replaced...546$ later, runs like a champ again.
