shift linkage and ecu ???'s

I just got a 89 crx si and i put in my short shifter with new bushings, but it is all on a 90 si shift linkage...sometimes it hits the exhaust..is this because it is for a 90 not a 89...I can just put it all on the 89, but I got it all on the 90 shift linkage so instead of changing it all over I just threw it on. Also I have a spare 91 si ecu and I was wondering if the 90-91 ecu's are any better than the 88-89. Thanx for your help and I am waiting to get my pictures back so I can post pics of the car.

Your short shifter is more than likely the cause of banging the exhaust.

88-91 ECU's are the same,

88-91 ECUs are not the same.

the 88 and 89 ECU uses the same architecture as the old style PG7 integra ECU.. that is, the EPROM is located inside of the microprocessor, making it impossible to chip. the 90-91 PM6 has an external EPROM which makes for easy chipping.

Also, its been said that ECU tuning makes up the extra 3hp gained from 89-90. (88-91 D16A6 is 105hp while the 90-91 is rated at 108hp)

Learn something new everyday.

But, as far as a mildly modified civic. Would a 90/91 really be that much better to use over the 88/89, if ecu tuning was not going to be done?

Thanx a lot for your replys. I know that it is my short shifter that is making the noise on my exhaust I just did not know if it was because of the linkage. I am going to take it apart again today and see if I can figure it out. Also with the ecu's I am just going to throw in the 90-91 ecu since I have it. Thanx again.

The shifter bangs because it is longer.

So this is normal from the skunk2 hort shifters or from the shift linkage?
