85 daytona

My girlfriends dad just sold me his 85 daytona(its not a turbo) for $100. Its only got 63k on the engine, but the body is cover in small dents, its got a cracked windshield, it needs a good tune up, its automatic but the shifters detents dont work so well (you can go from drive to nuetral without pushing the button) and the pistons that hold the trunk open are dead. The car also hasnt been driven in the past 5 years so the battery is dead. But it does have brand new brakes, a new intake, air filter, hood and front fenders wich are a little bent up.

What parts will I need to fix this up? And also is there any websites thatspecialize in daytona parts?

lol, the car is suppose to allow you to go from drive to neutral without hitting the button, its standard, ask anyone who owns one You can also go from 1st to 2nd to drive with out hitting the button. You can get almost all of the parts from your basic napa or advance auto parts store, or what ever is local around there. Ya probably wanna get the windshield fixed first cuase it wont pass inspection with a cracked windshield. (your cars condition is very similar to mine when i bought it, lol ) Check the brakes and rotors and get them replaced, when i got mine with about 70K miles on it, then were jes small pecies of rusted metal, lol. replace your Driveaxle (two parts, driverside and passenger side), cuase i bet its probably worn, and the car probalby clunks alot. CHECK YOUR HEAD GASKET! daytonas have a rare ability to blow head gaskets more often then others, if your driving around with a blown head gasket, you might have warped the cylinder heads and camshaft, and thats a 700 dollor affair. Ohh yeah, you should probably get the top half of the motor checked jes incase your girlfriends dad was driving around with blown head gasket replace distributor and distributor cap/wires, my daytona was a pain in the ass to start in the winter becuase of the distributor, and mine was sitting for about 3 years. replace the oil/fuel/air filter, and change the oil and radiator fluids, check to see if any radiator hoses are clogged, if they are you are likely to have no heat, which means replacing the heater core, WHICH IS A PAIN IN THE ASS!! replace the timing belt, it might be worn. check for vaccum leaks (i dunno how to yet, sorry) and check the frame for rust, if your gonna rebuild the body, make sure the frame is in good shape. Jack the rear, and take a look at the rear axle, if the sway bar, or any other bar is rusted and about to fall off, the rear of the car will sway like crazy, and thats not very fun to drive around in. then you can start working on the body and interior and all that, get some weatherstripping for it if it doesnt already have it, it looks sleak and prevents rusting. I cant help you with the body cause im not at that part yet with my daytona H/f!

jesus, i didnt think i wrote that much...
hope this helps, i might be missing a few parts, ill tell ya as they come up..

Dont worry to much about price, replacement parts are oddly cheap for this car, the most expensive thing you'll prob. buy is the driveaxles (50 bucks each) engine/transaxle and refurbushing the body
