well, if reprogramming those atmel at29 chips is how u reprogram the ECU, then if u have an old 200 mhz intel computer, check the bios chip and see if it has the same number of pins. if so, u can flash it using the computer motherboard by loading it into dos and using a flashing program that will write .bin files.

but this is a little complicated. i have done it for my xbox to allow it to play backup games. it takes a while. i would only try this if u have a ecu mapping program on ur computer, and a zif socket installed on a SECOND ecu that u can scrap if u break it. the Zero-Insertion-Force socket allows u to pop out the main ecu chip whenever u want by pressing a lever.

so imagine changing ur ecu mapping by just putting in a new chip when ur car is off and turning it on again.

that is amazing. but since the site is in jap, i doubt ill ever do this.

EDIT: it seems as though there is a program on the site that allows u to edit the rom settings. i will play around with the program and get back to u.

u can always get a commercial FLashROM device. those work well too.

the site that Nizzy posted is for re programming ur ecu urself, which probably isnt the best idea, but if u have the knowledge and know how about computer units and flashroms, then its easier and waaaaaay cheaper than tuning thru JWT.

hehe.. Ralphy

well, this program is fuckin incredibly hard. i mean, if i knew about ecu and shit, it would be dead easy. but i havent the slightest clue.

all i know is that the car's bin file that i am examining has a rev limiter of 7500 and 7600
and a top speed limiter of 200, 180, and 200 kmh.

i have no idea why there are more than 1 setting for each side. but what u could probably do is email the guy and ask if he speaks english well, then tell him ur mods, then see what he says would be good, cause from the looks of it, the guys on his sites have had experience with alot of parts.. so he should know what works good and what doesnt.

thats all i got for this subject.. good luck, and thanks for bringing it up cause i was gonna ask about ecu reprogramming sooner or later anyways

Hi ya's
Just surfing around looking for car info and found your posts about using the rom editor.
I have been using it to re-progam the maps and setting in my nissan pulsar gtir for a while now. I have found the stock ecu better than alot of after market ones and has better tuning options. It also has 256 map points that can be moved to where ever u want them. All good.
I also use a link knock gauge and an exhaust temp gauge to tune my car and have gotten it doing 12.6sec 1/4mile times with only airfilter, crap exhaust( I plan on changing this soon) and turning the boost up.

The copy i dloaded from that site is in english. Version 1.98.48E.
I find the program is way easyer than using this forum :-( I have logged in 4 times just to make 1 reply to a post. Anyway enough of my problems.
The maps u want to edit r the High octane maps. The low octane maps r for when the ecu goes into limp mode. If u select a map then right click on it and select 3D edit mode it will give u a better idea of what is going on and u can make changes using the + and - keys. U can get alot of power from advancing the the ignition and smoothing it out but to much advance will kill or lesson the life of your motor. Same goes for leaning out the fuel curve.

Check out this link. It explains it all in a bit more detail.
http://www.boostcruising.com/silvia/eprom.asp

So what motor r u trying to chip?

I have the SR20DET in an S15. I come from an electronics background so i know the prices i have seen around the place are far from realistic.

Fair enough these guys put a small amount of effort in developing their maps but the parts you receive cost fu@k all.

Now my only challenge is gunna be pulling the ROM out of my computer. I expect them to not be using EPROMs any more in a 2001 model car.

Just took a look at the english version of the software....looks much more familiar. Should be a fun project.

Thanks for your help dude

No probs.
When u get the bin files out of your ecu could u send me a copy. I would be keen to have a look and see what can be done. Also maybe a pic of the inside of your ecu :-)

I have had a look at some Mines, Tomie and a few other aftermarket maps for my car and for what u r paying it all looks bad.
The first thing i noticed is it is like they have all started off with the same bin file (not the stock bin) and made a few changes from there. Also it looks like they missed a few map points when setting it up. Hard to spot in a hex editor but easy when u use a 3d map.
