Some miscellaneous questions

Including some newbie stuff:

- I've just painted a primer coat and found some mold lines I missed (was I blind?!) and also there's a chunk of dust that needs to go. If I sand with some 1200 very lightly, do I need to reprimer the whole thing and wait another week, or just go from there with the top coat after making sure there's no sanded dust?

- from what I read, cutting compound is a bit of a trap for young players, and I'm all pretty new to this, will just waxing still give good results? Is there some special wax or will regular automative wax (for 1:1 scale cars )work fine?

- any one got some tips on how to make a race window net?

- any tips on how to make bonnet pins?

- when painting black onto the back of windows the FAQ recommends (a few times I think) to always spray this on..... why can't it be brushed on? (See,, newbies do read the FAQ )

- can masking tape be used on flat surfaces and brushed, or will it always get under the tape?

- what's a good liquid which can be used to clean finger prints and the like off painted plastic but won't hurt the paint?

Welcome to AF!!

I will try to answer some of your questions and Im sure others will follow suit.

1. yes you need to re primer the body but not nessaraly the whole body just the area you sanded.

2. real auto wax will destroy your paint job-dont do it. Use a model based wax like Tamiya brand wax or Novus Plastic Polish 1,2,3 to get a shine. Most likely you will still have some orange peel but thats why you need to use compound.

3. Window screen-get some from your local Hardware store and cut to size

4. ?? Egh-just get some after market pins from Studio 27 or someone else.

5. you would leave brush strokes-a major no-no

6. yes it will-any time you brush paint on over tape its going to bleed. Now if you use a really good painters tape it probly wont go through but you never really know-pratice on scrap before trying it on your model to see if you can do it or not.

7. tough one-not sure of any thing overall that wont screw up your paint job in the process of removing a finger print. I use Novus plastic polish #2 to get rid of fingerprints in the paint. I guess it softens the paint up to remove the print as a bonus it will shine the car up!
