Angry 2000 Ls

Since purchasing the Lincoln LS we've replaced the transmission, fixed the two back windows, and now it's going back to the dealership for the 8th time with a no start problem. They've replaced the cm twice, rewired the anti-theft, provided new keys.......and it still has the starting problem. It's like finding a needle in a haystack.

Why do they sell cars they can't service??????

Just to make the sale?

Seriously, sounds like you got a bad or imcompetent dealer. I'd try another dealer if possible.

sandy_s I purchased a 2002 LSE about a year ago the first day I bought it the air quit working on the way home. They replaced the complete unit. When it got colder out the heater would not warm up. They replaced that complete unit. Then the steering column starts this clicking noise. They replaced the whole steering column. The suspension was clunking. They tightened the suspension bolts. The tail light came loose. They tightened that. My traction control switch shorted out and they replaced that. My driver side mirror is loose now and I just said fu77 it I am selling this. The fotunate thing is that the dealer did treat me very well but I didn't pay 40K for this kind of shit so now I am off to a Lambo kit and I am building it myself with the exception of the fabricated chassis. Good luck I had enough of the LSE even though it is an awesome looking car and people tell me that all the time.

Sandy - I feel your pain. I have taken my Lincoln LS 2001 in for the same starting problem 7 times and they do not have a clue how to make it work like it did when I bought it. It used to start on the first try at .4 seconds. Now it takes several cranks of 2.5 seconds or longer to get it to start. The service department says that is in the NORMAL range of start times for the LS - I think a $40K 2 yr old car it shouldn't start like an old jalopy. I have contacted consumer affairs and am going to call the attorney general's office to see what I can do to get out of this problem. I will never buy a FORD again after this. FYI - I read an article about Buyer ALerts that said perhaps the PCM needs to be reprogrammed. Maybe you could try that. ALso, I too have had the window regulators go out twice and the driver side heated seat has malfunctioned twice as well. I am overwhelmed with frustration and do not understand why no one know exactly what part of the car controls the starting and how to fix it as good as new!!

Re: 2000 Ls

The no-start issue has been addressed by Lincoln engineering. It was an issue with the exhaust valve being left open with #1 at TDC on shut down. When cranking, the engine couldn't get enough compression to fire. There was a TSB issued to address this issue. It involves a PCM firmware update, or "reflash". Your service dept. needs more training.

Check with you state's "Lemon Law". It may apply to you since you've had it back so much for the same problem.

Dont buy an LS

I bought a 2000 LS V8 Sport with 64,000 miles.. I now have 79k miles. Since then I have had the following issues:

1. Total Climate Control Module Failure: $850
2. Heated Seats: Crazy. Burn my butt sometimes othert timers don't work at all. Never looked into having them fixed.
3. Crazy engine/trans issue. Both check engine and trans light would come on periodically while excellerating at which time the car was puking. Answer: Dealership said 7 of 8 "coils" bad. Wanted $700 to replace them all. Upon further conversations and computer record reviews, they determined 3 of the 8 coils were actually mis firing. Had those three replaced 2 weeks ago for $400. Seems to be O.K. now, but I am leary that it isn't as smooth as it used to be. Not sure if that is perception or reality. Dealership coil tester apparently reads either good or bad under stress testing. Apparently 7 of mine were reading bad. What a fricken joke. Give me a good ole distributer........
4. Rear Brake Caliper needed to be replaced due to malfunction that burned through pad and router. Thus total brake job for $350 including caliper.
5. Damn car locks the doors randomly. No rhyme or reason. This is not user error. This is a car electrical issue. Thus after being locked out of the car twice at gas stations, I no longer EVER leave the keys in the car.
6. Leaky valve gaskets. $400 to fix. Leaving it alone.
7. Leaky headlights. Leaving it alone.
8. Random beeps peridoically while driving God knows from what. Beeps once then nothing. No idea.
9. Blows cold while idling. Dealer now says "thermostat" and is happy to replace the $13 part for $400 of labor.

Probably several other items I have forgotten at the moment that irk me.

So lets see other than not having any type of climate control in the cabin, the fact that I don't trust the engine & transmission, and with half of the lousy "luxary" items non working I don't see any reason why anyone would buy this car ever........... Especially with a 40k plus price tag. Who are they kidding? But hey I could continue to spend $500 a month in repairs/maintenance to the local dealership or I can throw this thing away and put a turnequte on to stop the hemmorenging.

Plus side. Car is dang fast and has nice radio. Oops forgot to mention that when I use the up/down volume controls on the steering wheel it will often times randomly change the station to the next preset...

End result. I got hosed. This car is junk. I sure wish I had my 1997 sable with 130k miles back........
