Achieva PassLock problems

I own a 96 Achieva. It was working about as perfect as an Achieva can, until just out of the blue, the car wouldn't start. Rather, the car would start, but then immediately turn off. It was fine the day before. The "Security" light blinks, so i'm that the PassLock system is all screwy. Is there a way to fix this?

You will need to pull the codes from the PCM and BCM to determine what the fault code is to help with diagnostics.
I would recommend that you go to your local GM dealer for this repair.
If I had to guess, I would lean towards the Passlock sensor in the lock housing.

My 96 just did the EXACT same thing; I spent approx $800 just on parts to have my passlock system fixed (I think they had to replace the ignition system, and do electrical work too) --- and that was at a shop where they didn't charge me labor (my dad's friend, thank goodness).

It's working great now, but I sure am wondering if it's worth it

Re: Achieva PassLock problems

I had that happen on my 96 Eighty Eight. The problem was one of the wires coming from the igniton lock(the part the key goes in),broke. I replaced it and everything was fine. It was around $60-70 for the part at the dealer with my discount. Labor was free since I did it myself If you have the tools it doesn't take REAL long.

I'm having a similar issue with my 96 achieva,

It was very cold out 15 degrees. I remote started the car and it did not start. I tried multiple times till the battery was near death. I tried leaving the key in the ignition for ten minutes to reset the passlock, didn't work. I tried to disconnect the battery, didn't work. I waited several hours and it started. I ran the car on the parkway and it died while going around a bend. All dash lights came on, interior lights came on then everything blacked out. The car then started back up while hesitating. The security light stayed on while driving. When the car was shutdown it started up but the RPM's immediately jumped to 3000 then slowly dropped... Please help. Thank you
