Silver F1 "M99 PES" spotted in the UK

Does anyone know of this car? It was a Silver F1 with Xenon headlights and a fixed, high-level rear wing. I am pretty sure that the plate was " M99 PES" and was spotted near Luton on the M1.

Cheers.

I am not familiar with this car at all.

Did it have the full LM-kit, or did it have the standard F1 roadcar body with the high rear wing? I have only ever seen one F1 with the roadcar body and a high wing and that was a red car from Japan.

As far as the plate - there are the two LM-kitted F1s that were seen at Monaco which have similar plates. The Orange one which is actaully a converted GTR has "M66 MCL" and the silver/grey one which is an LM-kitted F1 roadcar wears the plate "R66 MCL".

Can you describe the car a little better? I'm guessing that you don't have a photo.

Guys,

This car had the standard F1 road car body, but with the high wing. We were in the fast lane (BMW 318 ), and my Brother-in-law spotted someting with Xenon light approaching rather rapidly. He first thought it was a CLK GTR, but it soon became apparent it was a F1.

Naturally, we let it pass, and followed behind it for some distance. As he pulled off at an exit, he was in the exit slip road, the driver looked across and smiled. I motioned to him to 'floor it'; he obliged He changed down, the engine pitch changed, and that car shifted like no other road car I have ever seen. I own a modified Diablo but in comparion, this thing was rapid. Aside from the acceleration, the thing that struck me was how small the car is and how quiet the exhaust is...until the throttle is cracked open, that is

I discussed this with a friend of mine who worked at McLaren on the F1 project, and he concluded that this may have been a customer car that was retro-fitted with a much higher output 'works engine'. He said that only a few of these had ever been done, and it is not a widely known fact.

wow, wing but no gtr kit, i would be interested to see what that looked like. I know there was only one car made with a high output engine so this could well be it.

Hey Diablo96, are you absolutely sure the license plate was "M66 PES"?

Well again I will state that I'm not familiar with this car at all. If it did have the road car body without the other LM-Kit additions, then I know I have never seen a photo of it. Sounds like a great story diablo96 - glad to hear that others are getting to see them performing as they are supposed to like I did last week.

I can post a photo later of the red Japanese car with the high rear wing, but standard road car body. Personally, I think it looks awful in that combonation. It ruins the clean lines of the road car and doesn't add enough of the aggressiveness of the LM-Kit to make up for it. I would imagine there was only one red F1 in Japan so I would assume that is the car that tvrfreak now confirms as being in the Bay Area in CA. Ithink he would have mentioned if it had that wing fitted to it still. He did say it didn't look good in red.

M66 PES looked exactly like the car in the pic, but from what I can remember, the wing was not that tall...

Here are some larger photos of the red Japan F1 taken at a different angle. I think the wing looks ridiculous. It also appears to be much higher (about 6") than the wing on any GTR, LM-Kit, or LM than I have ever seen. It also looks to be mounted on the car about 6" further forward then on those other winged F1s. Normally the wing sits at the back over the pop-up spolier, but this one appears to attach to the rear engine cover which covers the catalysts.

Diablo96 - Of course you'll need to start carrying a camera with you everywhere you go now in case you happen to see the silver car again.

I don't know - there's only a few possibilities for red F1's though.

If it is indeed the same car that is here in the US now, maybe the information will come out in time. I have a contact trying to track down the owners name for me. Also, 'diablo roadster' who posts on this forum may also be able to provide some info on this car.
