Talking Newbee With Some Q'bee's

Hello fellow Sol Mates. I have a 94 S and I have a few Q's I have read every thread lookin for some answers but havent found any help yet. Ok, has anyone MADE a trunk release for their non-cabled sol? I am really tired of having to take my keys out of my car every time I want to enjoy the scenery. Any help is appreciated and illustrations are even better. PS I've been to teamdelsol and i found nothing.
OK Q 2 I read on a thread that the S model doesnt have support for a lower sway bar.... Am I correct??? I hope I read this wrong b/c I just ordered a set of upper/lower sway bars... :-P I really hope I can put em on. THANKS GUYS (and girl I think i saw a chick on a few threads HEY THERE. )

I'm sure it wouldnt be that hard to rig up something for the trunk.

You need to get your bars straight. There is no such thing as lower or upper sway bars. A sway bar is a sway bar thats mounts under the car connecting left & right suspension together reducing body roll. A rear sway bar upgrade will do a lot more than 4 tie bars(F/R upper/lower)

Strut tower / tie bars are upper & lower mounted. They are for chassis stiffening & nothing else.

Would take some money, but I'm sure it can be done. Saw once where someone stuck a rotary engine in a CRX. Was pretty sweet.

As for the trunk release, "solchick" said she had one put in her Del Sol by the previous owner:

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t127738.html

Maybe she has more info on that for 'ya.

95+ sols have them... get the parts and go for it! You'll need the release, the cable, the trunk latch, and the trunk springs. If you're good, you can go to a junkyard and get it all for under $100.

I dunno what your ordered . . .whats the description say? Probably upper front/rear bars, I would guess.

You could run a 50 shot with no problems just dont over-use or abuse it. Personally I would go with Zex & it would cost about $500 for the kit not including install labor or filling the juice. Check out www.summitsportcompact.com for the kits. If you dont know much about nitrous purchase some books about it before you go installing it on your daily driver. $50 for books is a whole lot cheapier than an engine, that just gives you a reason to swap something better

Dude AL has like the best junkyards ever. Me and my friend Amanda found enough parts between the two of us to make a whole new del Sol. Hood latches, interior parts, engine parts.. you can find it. Just gotta be willing to get dirty

If you're looking to install the stut tower bars, here's where they go:

Under the hood: fairly obvious. There's two struts on each side of the engine bay, with two bolts each. I believe they are 14mm and are to be tightened to 36lb/ft of torgue (borrow a torque wrench if you don't have one). Can't miss it -- just follow the bar on either side to see the mounts. The mounts wrap around the strut towers and that's where the two bolts are. Here's a shot of where it goes and where it mounts.

For the rear: the struts are covered by carpet in the trunk. There's two little humps on either side which are covering the struts. You have two choices:

1. Remove the carpet to get the them and leave the carpet out. Not as good looking, but it'll work.

2. Cut either a "+" or "x" pattern in the humps to get to the struts which makes it easy to install them and look very nice or cut out a circle of carpet out around them to get to the struts. Personally, I cut the carpet and used the "+" pattern. I'll get a shot of mine posted maybe tomorrow to show you.

If you opt to cut the carpet, do it with a box cutter. I used one of those box cutters they use at like UPS and other places. Made it easy to do. If you use a saw or toothed object, it'll frizz up the carpet and make a mess. Box cutter worked great for me - clean cut and no mess. Same deal for the rear - two bolts which are 14mm and need to be torqued to 36lb/ft.

May want to check on the torque though - I'm basing this off of the specs for my '95 VTEC model. I would imagine it'd be the same for yours, but I would make sure. The service manual should tell you or you could ask a Honda dealer service shop.

Thumbs up Wow

WOW I must say your sol looks great under the hood VERY CLEAN!!
Thanks for the info bout the strut tower bars. I got them the other day and went to my friends house and we figured it out... I havent put em on yet though cause we both figured it would be best to go to honda and ask about spscifics if there were any .... just like the torque We also found the rear ones and figured the + would be fitting also :-) As for pics, im lookin at a digicam but I really wanna put a bit more money in my car.. Online, at Ebay I was lookin for short shifters.....I saw some from DC at $99 to one that was only 10 ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2432827570 )

I know you get what you pay for but i just have a lil d15 engineand am not planning to ever top 200 hp...do I really need a hundred dollar shifter? The cheap one is made from billet alluminum which is strong...why is this one sooo cheap? Do you think it will not last/work/be worth spit? I also wanna keep the black bar so I'd actually prefer the cheap 10 one??? Am i not seeing a small detail that will make this one not work or are shifters just cheap? Any input will be greatly appreciated...

ONE more thing... Where is my IAT? The place that I thought it was is actually the MAP sensor (Manifold air pressure???) so I am at a loss... I have access to the haynes manual but have not gotten it yet (lazy)

Thanks again !!!!

Thanks. That pic was my engine from about a month ago. I'll get a more recent shot up sometime.

It's been in my experience that you really do get what you pay for. That goes not only for design and compatability, but effectiveness and manufacturing quality of the product itself. Don't want to buy something that will warp, bend, wear out, or whatever or say it works and then not. DC Sports make exceptional products, though I agree they are a bit pricey. My roommate give top marks to their headers.

I'll poke around my service manual and see if I can find your intake air temp sensor. Not sure if it'll be in the same spot though since we've got different models.

If you prefer, you're better off with getting the actual service manual for your car instead of the Haynes manual. It's $62 for your year, but mine's been well worth it.

1994 Del Sol Service Manual

This is the exact same manual your Honda dealership uses.

Look at this

Cool, thanks for helpin me with the AIT thing.
While being bored tonite, i found this ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2432929804 ) WTF? What? I saw where earlier someone had a yellow plastic one posted and yall said it was crap What is this supposed to be? They call it an electronic supercharger isnt it more like a turbo? Keeping a bit of air then giving it to you at a higher press? It says nothing aobut how much HP it adds so I'm supposing its not much seems like a rip
I also saw some BOMZ coilovers.... said they are adjustable and can lower your car?? They were like 50 bucks??? Is this all one would need to lower their car??? and wouldnt that effect my camber???
hmm, looked for service man on ebay check it out http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2432851232 wonder if its the real thing...

Anyhoo thanks again

When it comes to springs, shocks, coilovers DO NOT BUY CHEAP! Stick with H&R, Neuspeed, Eibach, KYB, Koni, etc. something well-known. If you get just coilover springs then you should upgrade the shocks. Any time you lower a car you should install better shocks. When you lower the car more than 2" or want more adjustments then a camber kit is needed in most cases. If your gonna lower the car either go with true adjustable coilover(waste for the street IMO) or good springs & shocks.

Eibach Pro-Kit w/ KYB AGX
H&R Cup Kit

check out www.tirerack.com for quality suspension parts

Do your suspension right the 1st time, nothing worse than a shitty ride & then having to re-do it the right way.

Yeah, those plastic turbo thingies aren't really worth it. They may add like 10 hp or something like that I think. Someone had linked to their site at some point. They look like oversized hair dryers to me. =\ You're better off investing the money into something more worthwhile or toward a real turbo or supercharger kit.

As far as I am aware, a quality coilover kit will run upwards around $900 or so. If you lower or raise your car, I believe it will affect your camber, so you'd need a camber kit as well.

It's been my experience on eBay that if they have no pics to back up what they're selling, then it's either the wrong thing, crap, or just not worth my time trying to find out. The link to the manual I gave you is indeed the real service manual Honda uses. It weighs a ton, but is definately worth getting if you're going to mod your car or work on it. I kicked Haynes to the curb when I needed info for my '88 Accord and the Haynes manual was wrong or had nothing on what I was looking for. I bought the Honda manual for that too. Wasn't as heavy or as big as my Del Sol manual though.
