newb questions

recently i purchased a 90 teg gs to start as aproject car ....i decided that it was jus not what i wanted i decided to look in to the eclipse and i had a couple of question are the eclipse and the talon the exact same car first of all i was interested in the 97-99 model tha most i was wonderin between the gsx and the gst which one is the better pick as in speed i mean i have read about drivetrain loss with all wheel drive and i wanted 2 know what are the different engine codes i,ve heard 4g and 2g and 1g im guessing the lower numbers are the earlier generations also i was wonderin what is the 6bolt engine and the 7bolt ....other than that reliability issues strength of the internals ne parts that are prone 2 problems for example a history of a weak tranny other that ...oy yeah and is turbocharging the nonturbo models something that is feasible is it perhaps more cost efficient cause u can buy a nonturbo cheaper and the get 2 custiomize ur turbo kit ....a lot of questions i know

I dont mind answering 50 questions in one email, but if you would be so kind as to use at least SOME punctuation it would make my job a lot easier

1) Talon and eclipse are the same car.
2) GSX is best for drag racing, or any ohter situation where you need to launch the car.
3) Drivetrain loss is a factor, but AWD cars are geared lower to counter it
4) The engine code is 4g63(t) for all turbo T/E/Ls
5) 1g/2g/3g are generations of DSMs. 1g is 90-94, 2g is 95-99, 3g is 00 up, 1g and 2g had the same driveline, everything changed for 3gs though.
6) 6 bolt motor was the one that came in 90-92 cars, and has larger rods so it can handle more power. 93 and up was the 7 bolt motor with the smaller rods, and a greater chance to crankwalk (dont ask what crankwalk is until you have searched the topic thoroughly).
7) the trannies arent weak, but we are asking a lot of them. Most poeple go into the 11s before having issues. But if you inted to drive the car hard on the street/track, save yourself the headache and do the speed design 4 spider gear diff before you break the stocker (cheaper that way)
8) you can turbo the NT models (see hahn racecraft) but if you have hte choice start with the turbo car. The internals are already strong enough for 400 (7 bolt) to 500 (6 bolt) wheel HP. Turbo kits arent too expensive for the NT cars, but add in internals etc...

Hope that helps.

yeah what he said, except 3rd generations,(2000 and up) are not DSM cars. not that this really matters but technicaly they are not.

actually from about 96 and up there was no such thing as DSM, but we still call the 2Gs DSMs.

English? The 95s were DSMs. We welcome all cars of similar nature, though.

My mistake, just looked it up. 95's are DSM's. I thought it was only first gen. And yes I know DSM is the general term for a car with the 4g63 engine.
