91' Daytona Possibilities?
Hey all. I am a Honda guy..so let me first begin with letting you all know that. I honestly don't know jack as far as Dodge's go...or daytona's.
A friend of mine back home (I am moving back there in a few weeks!) has a 1991 Dodge Daytona. He has the 2.5L I4, and a manual transmission. He says he knows a guy with a 3.0 V6 turbocharged daytona sitting around, doing nothing more than collecting rust. He said he would like to take the turbo off of that daytona, for his own car. I didn't think this would work, since I assume since the turbo version is a 3.0 V6, that the exhaust manifold would not bolt up with us, therefore the turbo wouldn't work. Is this right? As far as it seems, his best bet for some good power, would be to swap in the 3.0 V6 Turbo engine. Does anyone agree? Also, I have read that the 2.5L isn't really "meant" to have any serious power, due to the long stroke, and weak internals. Is his a credible belief? Would the 2.2L be a better way to go? I'm not knowledgeable on Daytona's at all, as I said..but I was wanting to get everyone's opinion on power possibilities. I haven't known the guy a very long time, but he seems cool, and really wants to get his Daytona in better condition, so I would like to help, by letting him know his options. Thanks for your help. well my good buddy considering from 1984 to 1993 daytona never came with a v6 turbo a porotype was made and it in the musium so ur buddy bsing you lol
now about making the car turbo charged 2.5L non turbo is gutless ur crx could kill it 2.5L turbo 89 and up make 150 hp with 7 psi stock 2.2 had similar stats the 2.5L turbo hightrowuq made 152 hp and 210 pounds of torque more than a talon dose at 200 hp okay ur buddy would be best off buying a 2.5L turbo head with a 2.2L block t 2 block that is from an 87 and up best to get one from a 90 and up if u can find one witha one pice intake and then do mods from there grainger vale to allow more boost injectors exust intercooler the works then he will have himself a 300 hp 2.5Lturbo daytona the stock daytona could handle a turbo but the rod are wak and pistons arent forged thay will be prone to detination and then kaaabooooooommmmmmmmm no more block ![]() so think about it |

The only turbocharged 3.0L V6 offerd from Chrysler was in the Dodge Stealth. It was a Mitsubishi 3.0L V6 with twin intercooled Mitsubishi TD04 turbos. The 3.0L V6 used in the LeBarons, Daytonas, Dusters, and other cars share the same block as that engine but it uses a different head, sleeves, pistons, rods, and crank. If it does have a turbo it is an aftermarket one. You could use the turbo if you want. You would just have to make a custom flange to fit it to your exhaust manifold.
Your car as it is now is pretty weak. If you simply added a turbo to it you would tear the engine apart if you ran more than five pounds of boost. My suggestion would be to find a Turbo II to drop into your car. It is a simple engine swap. Of course you will need the electronics and computer from a Turbo II as well. Along with that Turbo II you will want to replace your transmission with the A-555 or the A-568 if you can find one of them. They will handle anything that engine can throw at them. The A-555 came on Turbo II engines and the A-568 came on Turbo IV engines. The Turbo II used a 2.2L I4 with a Garrett T03 turbo and used a water to air intercooler. You can check my sig for info on these cars. There are links on my car's sites that will tell you anything you need to know about Turbo Chryslers and Dodges. Also daytonashelby2.5, all the 2.5L and 2.2L enignes including the turbo versions used cast pistons not forged. The turbo engines used forged connecting rods and crankshafts. Forged pistons are a waste of money. Also detonation will only blow holes through your pistons it will not damage the block and forged pistons can handle detonation for only a minimal time longer than cast pistons. If you do everything right you won't have to worry about detonation besides. |

As far as the 3.0L being weak, the entire bottom end is the same as the 3.0L Twin Turbo, not just the block... I do believe the engine could handle 9 psi with a comfortable buffer to boot... Check out www.allpar.com/mopar/turbo3.html for information on turbo charging the 3.0L MMC engine.
