Help!! Paint Chipping

I have a 2000 Maxima SE that I purchased brand new. In a little over a year and a half, I have had quite a few paint chips on the front part of the hood. A Nissan Service Department is telling me there is no problem and that it is general wear and tear, which I think is totally wrong. I have a 1996 Honda Accord with over 100,000 miles on it that does not come close to having the number of paint chips as my Maxima.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I am trying to do my research before I go back to the service department to argue with them. I welcome any and all comments and suggestions that anyone might have. Thank you in advance for your help.

Well, because new autos are painted "wet on wet", it is possible (but unlikely) that your car sat too long between the primer coat and the paint color application. This would cause poor adhesion between the primer/sealer and the color coats. If this is the case, you would find it very easy to chip the paint loose with a razor blade at the edge of an existing chip. Proving that to a dealer would be a trick though. I expect you would have to get several reputable body shops to testify to the fact (good luck). Do you drive regularly through a highway construction area?

Angry You are not the only one.

I just purchased a 2002 Maxima SE that I am very happy with but I have ojnly had the car a month and I started noticing some paint chips. I started looking around on the web and stumbled onto this forum at http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?threadid=25984 There are many. Also check out http://www.nissanpaint.com/. There is a link to the same forum there.

Mine's all chipped up too. Only 9500 miles. I thought about getting a bra, but then the rest of the car's paint will fade and the front won't.
