Exclamation Help! 1987 Maxima charging problem.

I drive a 1987 Maxima wagon, which I bought from a used car dealer. (Yeah, i know I'm a fool, shush.) Anyway, I've been having an odd charging problem.

The car won't charge until it reaches full operating temperature, and even then, it usually won't charge. However, once it starts charging (voltage meter in car goes up to 14v and lights stop being dim), it remains charging without cutting out unexpectedly. Has anyone experienced this type of problem, or does anyone know what can cause it? Would appreciate an icq or aim message as well as a reply to the thread. Thanks

Don't see many Gen 2 on the road these days. But if I had to guess, I would say it's the alternator. Just for grins, I checked for a recall on your car and the alternator was recalled in Oct 1996 as were some of the electrical connectors. The thing to do now is check to see if you have OEM or aftermarket parts.
