Question Engine Questions

I have a '91 STD HB...

1) Will a JDM B16A pass CA smog?

2) In order for a B18C1 swap to work, I need a cable-type tranny, yes?

3) Will any cable-type B-Series tranny bolt on to the B18C1?

4) Will the B18C1 rub on the hood as I've heard?

5) Anyone know where I can find a 94-96 B18C1 minus the tranny?

6) How much do the various B-Series engines weigh? (B16A, B18C1, etc.)

1) no... jdm engines are not legal in CA

2) its alot easier to do it this way, but there are hydro conversion kit
out there..

3) yes... all b series trannies are compatible with all b series engines..

4) it will rub.. but there are measures you can take like cutting some
ribs out of the underside of the hood... spacing the hood with
washers... or getting an sir style hood..

I already knew that JDM engines aren't legal in CA, perhaps I should rephrase...

Will a smog test center fail me even if I pass emissions? Since the '99 Si had the same engine code, could I just say its a 99 Si motor, or would they be able to tell?

And no one knows how much the various B-Series weigh? I know the B16A is 309 lbs or something like that, is the B18C1 much heavier?

hasports came out with there hydro conversion kit so u can use a hydro tranny now in your ef
so u can use a cable tranny if u want or u can get a strong synchroed hydro tranny and have it last longer.
and they engine code on the 99 si is b16a2 not just b16a like your jdm motor will say so if he looks at it and doesnt see a 2 then u might have problems.
on honda-tech theres a guy who sells obd0-obd1 conversion harness, i would get oen of those and turn it into an obd 1 car
