Cabin Air Filter

I have been mucking around on the internet looking for a service manual for a 99 Intrigue and I stumbled on something which I wish I had saved at the time (since I can no longer find it). There was a website talking about a cabin air filter on Intrigues. I know that some expensive cars use a carbon filter but I did not expect this on a lowly Olds. Since I bought my car used it had no manual in the glovebox. Can anyone confirm that there is such a filter in the car?

I also bought a used 99. I got the phone number from the dealer of the company who sells the factory manuals. I think they cost me around $100. Three volumes, very well put together. The cabin air filter is a regular paper filter. I just replaced mine and it was under $20 at the dealer. You may already have one installed. It is located on the right side of the car under the wiper. Remove the black cover and you will see it. My understanding is even if it did not have one when new, all are set up for one. Good luck.

The best manuals that I know of are made by "helm" publishing. These are indeed a several volume set that was about $125 the last time I purchased one (about 5 years ago). I can not seem to find the publisher online though. If you find a source, please post the URL or phone number.

I just checked my car, but your explanation is not obvious to me. Are you talking about the passesnger side or the drivers side? This is outside the car under the hood, yes? I see nothing under the dash that looks to be what I am looking for.

At the base of the windshield on the outside, it looks like I can get a big piece of black plastic off of the passenger side with just two or three retainers, but no filter element is visible from the outside as there are only a few holes in the plastic. The plastic on the drivers side has a large open grate for air to flow, but it looks like I would need to remove both wiper arms to get the plastic off.

Website is helminc.com. As far as the cabin filter goes, raise the hood. There is a piece of black plastic trim under the right wiper arm. I think there are four fasteners, two different types. Remove these and look down in the opening. You should either see the filter or a rectangular opening. If a filter is not there, just slip one in(This is what I read on another web site.) There is also a piece of trim that goes in front of the filter. You will probably need to get this from the dealer. It looks like a rain deflector or something. Manuals are reasonably priced. I bought a 2000 Ford Exploder and they wanted $400 for the service manuals. Unloaded it two years later and took a beating. Never again!!!!!!! Hope this helps. If you need any other info, just ask. Was it hard to change this filter? I have a feeling mine is clogged up. I have hardly any air flow when the fan is in the high position. I have purchased one and want to exchange it.

Moderator, I am sorry for posting in a thread that is over 3 weeks old, but really need help in fixing this on my car. I am hoping that whlarson and the rest of the people in this thread are still subscribed to help me out here.

It is just as described. Undo the four retainers, lift off the plastic cover, and voila, there is the filter. Mine was kinda clogged up too, I didn't know it was there either!
