I think i shorted my cig lighters...

Hey guys, I am trying to hook up a switch for some misc interior light mods i have in my 2001 firebird...I was recently trying to get the cig lighters out to diconnect the power from them (they were the best housing for my little rocker switch) and i believe that i shorted them out with a screw driver or somthing. the fuse that runs them is also used to run the "Data Link Connector" and the "Auxilliary Accessory Wire" now, i need some info on this... since they are shorted out, i am thinking of just removing the fuse that they use to prevent any fires or anything, THen since there is no danger of electricity, i could run my other wires through its housing for the switch. BUT if i can use the aux wire to power my switch, then i will keep the fuse in and just cut power to the cig lighters...i guess all i need to know is if the Data link connector and aux access wire is important
if not then i can just remove that fuse..
thanks
