Question OK, serious engine swap question(s)!

Ok, this is probably going to be somewhat of a long post, so I want to apologize in advance for it.

Here's the situation, a little over a year ago I bought my very first Eclipse. 1993 1.8L SOHC FWD weakling. The person who owned it before me took terrible care of the car, so I spent most of this year on pure restoration alone.

Anyway, my engine (because of the previous owner) is going to go bad soon, I can just feel it. Basically, I have emotional ties with my Eclipse. I knew nothing of the car when I purchased it, it was purchased on pure looks alone. (It's a beautiful car, it really is. I'll post my only picture below this post.)

Ok, so what I want to do is I want to swap another engine into my car. Swapping the 4G63 engine is not going to be easy. After reading countless threads from DSMTalk.com and mia.dsm.org and other miscellaneous places, it's obvious that swapping for either 2.0 engines (4g63 or 4g63T) is going to be a mission and a half. Now I'm only 19 and I still live with my mother, and I just got my job two days ago. I don't have the money to spend on a swap like that. (I'm not mechanically smart enough to swap an engine on my own, lol. The most serious thing I've ever done was a few free mods and I changed my alternator and radiator. ).

Anyway, I've been looking at the 4G67. This engine is a DOHC 1.8L and I **THINK** it's a Galant engine. I have a friend who has this engine in what used to be a stock 1.8L SOHC Eclipse. Problem is, he PURCHASED the car that way so he doesn't know much about the swap. That engine would be fine for me BUT I want something turbocharged. Oh, by the way. Looking at his engine, it looks EXACTLY like another stock 2.0L DOHC stock engine. It really does. Anyway, just about 20 minutes ago, I found another engine.

Quote:
4G93T 16-valve DOHC 1.8 liter Turbo specs.

Bore x Stroke: 81.0 x ??.?
Piston Displacement: 1834cc
Compression Ratio: 9.0:1
ECI-Multi(Electronically Controlled Multi-point Fuel Injection)
Horse power: ??
Torque: ??

I found this engine here.

Anyway, how about that engine? Would it be a nice clean swap into my baby?

Once again, I'm sorry for the super long post. It's just that I really want to get this done.

Thank everyone in advance for their help, and for ever bothering to read this post. (I'm sure these "OMG HOW DO I SWAP" posts must get boring.)

Oh yeah, a picture of my car.

(My name is Jason, and this is my very first post here )

The TSi motor is the same motor that comes in the Eclipse. EXACT same one. No differences what-so-ever.
The problem is that the 2.0 DOHC 4G63 (The engine I assume you're referring to) is a mission and a half to swap into a 1.8L Eclipse (or any DSM for that matter)

i had a similar problem

i had a similar problem. i have a 95 eclipse and i took it to new york for a trip, and while i was there i had an oil change but the mechanics didn't put new oil in, and i totally burned out my engine. so obviously i had to buy a new one, but i learned that chrystler makes the exact same engine, and its a lot easier to find and a lot cheaper, it cost me like 800 bucks for an entire new engine, i was kind of worried buying a chrystler engine, but it worked out fine and im really happy with it.

i dont know if u can do the same with ur car since its a different model engine. mines a 2.0l 1997 cubic inches, and a 5-speed manual, but u should still check out some of the chrystler engines, it'll be a lot easier to find.

I do think this can give some guidance in this area, or atleast help you possibly. Not rocket science, need some motor mounts and some free time- we'll not that simple but you get the idea......

yep the dohc 2.0 that goes is in the neon is called the 420a when its sued in the eclpise...its in the nonturbo 2ng gens (with the expection fo the nonturbo spyder, which got a n/a 4g63) while it may be cheaper to buy the neon version of the motor (4dre or4dfe) the knock sensor's are in differnt places and they have more restrictive heads and its just not cool, might even have wierd motor mounts (to fit the neon not an eclipse) honestly, i would avoid these motors since they are know to have weak head gaskets and i would go for a n/a 4g63...you could later on do a real turbo conversion if you wanted (ecu, pistons, rods) and would have a MUCH more trustworthy motor
