735i?

Hi Folks,

I'm new on the forum, but hope someone out there can offer me some advice on the following:

I'm in the throes of changing my present car and need to replace it with a comfortable/luxury saloon car that will be used for longish highway journeys. (petrol is cheap here!) I've been offered a 1990 735i for a very good price. It has 170,000 Kms on the clock and a full service history that seems to tie in with the clock. As we plenty of sunshine here the bodywork is in great condition. The engine seems to run very well and performance is pretty good.

What I need to know is:- What can I expect to give me problems with a car of this age and can a reasonably comretant mechanic maintain it, or do I need to go to a BMW dealer for maintenance?......... also does this engine have a cam belt or is it a geared system...... hope someone can help.

Cheers

i bought mine 7 years ago 735i - and i will tell you something - its the most superb car i have ever had! i live in switzerland though i am african so i know african conditions as well! this car is great - i have travel many parts of europe driving this car and never did it dissapoint me at any time! and the power poooo! only make sure you do periodic service according to the manual and expect no problem! by the way mine is now 2890000 km and i wont dare change it! its a power on long drive! definately not meant for inner city drive - you can feel it cry for long fast drive!
