Question Are my RPM's too high?? or is this normal??

I have a 2000 si. When im doing about 80 on the freeway, my rpms are at about 4500. is that a normal thing? I dont remember anyones being that high. and is there anything i can do to change that? i stil have the stock rims on there. and the tires are /55. if anyone could give me some info, thatd be great.

The reason behind that is the B16's short gear ratio's. Anyone with a B16 should be at the same RPM.

Si tranny's have a different gear ratio - for "performance" instead of gas mileage. My non-vtec SOHC ZC D16 w/ si tranny runs about 4500rpm in 5th @ 80mph. 4500rpm is a good thing - close to or in power-band. Mines start to really make power @ 4000rpm - 80mph punches in 4th is fun

heh, imagine that, doing the speed limit would lower your RPMs in turn using less gas, which means you can save money. Damn, that's crazy.

Speaking of high RPMs, does anyone make or can you get a 6 speed manual transmission for Honda's? I love how my car is geared as it is, but I would like to have lower RPMs on the highways just to save wear and tear on the engine. Figure I would just drop the question here since we are talking about high RPMs. Hope you don't mind me getting off the subject a little.

Wishful thinking...

There is no 6 speed tranny for the D or B series. The engines were made to rev the way they do. Wear and tear is not due to regular highway rpms. Wear and tear is from haulin ass all over the place all the time.

So is it more hard acceleration that wears motors, or at a given RPM the wear is the same either during criuse or acceleration?
