Loss of power!?

Iīve got a serious problem with my y2k Prelude since a few weeks:
Sometimes it lags when accelerating in 1. and 2. gear between 1.500-3.000rpm. Even when I floor it nothing happens till about 3.000rpm when it seems to pick up the "power" again!
And I have got the feeling that it doesnīt accelerate as fast in general as about a month ago. When I floor it in 3. gear at about 5.000rpm it still feels slow for example.

Iīve checked so far:
- spark plugs
- cat
- K&N replacement filter (cleaned and oiled)
- clutch
- oil (seems to be really dirty and will be changed tomorrow!!)
- no uncommon noises or anything like that
- most of the visible cables etc. in the engine bay

Does anybody has got an idea what could be wrong??? I really donīt know what to do!
Thanx in advance and I hope you understand my problem!?! (I am very tired today! )

check your fuel filter, if the center screen is broken when you give it gas it can move to the back of the filter and plug the hole, happened with my eclipse last spring, quick cheap fix

@twally: My fuel filter is fine according to my mech. I did an oilchange this tuesday and the lag seems to be gone or not really noticeable anymore. But the acceleration still seems to be too slow IMO. Topspeed is the same as always though...

@bambam: I havenīt checked the distributor yet because Iīm very busy in the moment. But if it would be the distributor wouldnīt the car start worser than before or make any uncommon noises?? I once had a broken distributor on my old Prelude BB3 and when I wanted to start the car it always made some "squeeking" noise and didnīt want to start immediately.

well the reson why I mentioned that is because I had the same problem and I cheked everything and when I opened the distribuitor cap 1/4 of the magnet was just laying there and the bottom, I replaced it and i got my power back.

What kind of oil filter were you using? I know this probably wasn't the problem, but if your filter was blocking oil flow, you could have been putting quite a bit of stress on your engine. I wouldn't let a fram filter get within 4 feet of my car from the things I've heard about them. Their paper is shit, and their cans are weak, not to mention the lack of QC at their manufacturing plants.

I donīt know because it was done by a mechanic. The bill says "W814/ 80 oilfilterpat. Honda" so I would guess it is the right one.

I donīt think that anything serious is broke in my car because some days ago I drove on our Autobahn and my topspeed is still the same as ever! Only the acceleration is worser than before...

Check the www.ntpog.org website for the OBD workaround. You can also try reseting your ecu - either disconnect the neg. battery for ten min. or so, or just pull the Radio Fuse(7.5) for a few minutes.

The workaround doesn't let the ecu remember your codes, and negates the gradual decrease in power due to the ECU adjusting for your mods (more air, fuel, etc.).

I already know this site and I have already reseted the ECU two times. No difference at all. But thanx for your help!

I visited my local Honda dealer three days ago and the master mechanic (We have got "common" and "master" mechanics here in germany!) was back from his vacation. He checked my complete engine bay once again and drove the car for about 15 minutes. In his opinion the problem is caused by my K&N drop-in filter (cleaned it about two or three weeks ago) because he had the feeling that the car gets too much air and loses torque in the lower rpm in the moment. What do you think about that?? I have already used different filter types on my older Hondas (K&N drop-in and DC short ram) and never had a similar problems...
