i have a '93 dodge shadow non-turbo and i was interested to see if anyone has or has heard of turbocharging or possibly twin turbocharging a non turbo 2.2.

You can do it, but it will be expensive. You will have to buy the oil/cooling lines, piping, turbo, intercooler, sleeves, bearings, pistons, rods, possibly new crank, and all the electronics and wiring.

Don't bother with a twin turbo setup on a 4 cylinder. A single turbo is far more efficient.

Exclamation

first off, the shadow never had a 2.0, it came w/ a 2.2 or 2.5 sohc 4 or a mitsu 3.0 litre v6, they sold the shadow w/ a turbo in the es or shelby csx models, the turbo is the only one that came w/ a turbo and it had a good mitsu turbo on it already, so find one of those motors, prolly the 2.2 and put a good t-66 or t-88 turbo on it, itll be less expensive and better for throttle response

Re: '93 shadow 2.0 turbo?

The best thing for you to do is find a Turbo model to transplant the eninge, computer, wiring, piping, intercooler, and everything else you need. I'll break them down for you:

2.5L Turbo I: This used a 2.5L engine with a Mitsubishi TE04H. It was non intercooled. It olny used a standard manual transmisison called the A-520.

2.2L Turbo II: This used a 2.2L engine with an Garrett T03. It was intercooled using a water to air intercooler. It also used a Getrag forged five speed called the A-555.

2.2L Turbo IV: This used a 2.2L engine with a Garrett VNT25. It was intercooled using a water to air intercooler. It also used a newer Getrag forged five speed called the A-568.

I find the Turbo II to be better than the Turbo than the Turbo IV. I like the T03 over the VNT25. I do like the A-568 more than the A-555. It has better syncros and a better shifter. Also I wouldn't get a T-66 or bigger, that is just TOO big for the street. They take forever to spool. The best turbo would be a T03/T04 hybrid or one of the newer Garrett GT series turbos.

if you REALLY REALLY want to put a twin turbo system in it you coud always hunt downa wrecked 3000gt vr-4 and take it's 3.o litre twin turbo v6, that alone would give u alot of power but you would need a tranny and some wiring, ecu and such but i think there would be clearance problems w/ the turbo manifolds, the only reason i am suggesting this is because the shadow came w/ the mitsu 3.0 and it shuld bolt right up, if u want cheap non-turbo power u could jus put a 3.8 v6 in it, that would be found in a crysler town and country mini van and has alot of torque and power but it might need a tranny, im not to sure tho

is it possible to swap a 3.0L v6 twin turbo from a 3000gt vr4 for the 2.2nonturbo?? the vr4 looks rather big for the shadow. but it does sound appitizing to have that engine in the shadow

I don't think it will fit without some expensive modifications. Also by swapping in that engine you would throw off your weight ratio considerably.

i knew i guy once who did the vr4 conversion (complete w/ a 6speed and awd) and as for the motor everything fit pretty well, he had a pair of t03/t04 hybrid turbos on it, as for wieght distribution he put 2 optima gell cell batteries in the trunk and it evened out thins pretty well, the car was definatly a rocket ship, i dont really remember that well but i think he did put slightly smaller turbo manifolds on it, but as for the block since it was optional from the factory it did bolt right up, id ask him for you but he moved and i haven spoken to him in a long time
