another base 4th gen civic hb

Yes I know this thread has probably been done to death, and everbody here is probably sick of answering. I have a stock 89 civic hb, 4 speed manual tranny. Now I know there really isnt much I can do to this vehicle to make it "sporty" without some serious swaps and a good amount of money. But I was considering turning it into a fun little rally car. First thing I was considering was swapping the transmission for a 5 speed, considering how it needs a new clutch pretty bad as it is. But overall the car is in good shape and aside from the clutch all it really needs is a tune up. Anyways go ahead and post, unless your sick of telling base model owners not to even bother.

actually I was thinking what would be really cool would be to add the 4WD system from the civic wagon to my hb, probably a pain in the ass swap but it would be kind of neat.

yeah dynos dont lie and neither does timeslips...although this time slip is while i didnt have the zex. i have yet to make a run on the zex which i wont be doing as it has been sold and a turbo build it soon to be pushing 250-300 whp depending what i choose. yeah my d15 even pushes more than my old b16....but keep in mind...the trouble i go through driving this thing....29mpg...lopey idle....crappy power under 3000rpm. i say you are better off with a b series engine in terms of drivability....that doesnt mean you cant get a d to overpower some b series engines.

This isnt hard for me to believe at all... Its all knowledge. I know you guys are sick of hearing this name but Bisi Moto manages to get 300+ whp ALL MOTOR out of 1.3L HF motors! I dont know of any all motor B series motors that are pushing that much... (I didnt say it dont exist, I just said I aint heard about it yet) Most of the LS/Vtec-B20/Vtec guys I know are pushing 200-270 whp on some EXPENSIVE NA setups... Larry Widmer got to 300 whp with one of his B20/Vtecs right before it exploded into a billion pieces. (I will post pics if you are interested)

Bisi used a D15B7, which is a 1.5L 92-95 DX engine. He also has a machine shop sponsor him so they make custom cams and internals, and he was running in excess of 18:1 compression, although noone really knows his true setup.

Ummm, the engine he first had/blew up made 314 whp and 163 ft lbs torque on the dyno and it was a 1.3L hf motor... I have had quite a few chats with the guy (D series.org) and trust me, if he was making all that power mainley from compression and cams he would have to be running a 3000:2.1 cr... I figured it out, and I'll never tell.

i work for a machine shop and thats how this build has been under 1grand. im not even going to go into specifics as to what has been dont to this engine...id just rather not get into any arguments about it as i have been through before. but yes things like this are very capable with any motor. you just need to know what you can do to extract what your expecting. plus my tranny works in harmony with the power band of my engine. everything has to work together in order to get the results you want. just like adding a header....you then need to tune the car to the header of you will not see much of a gain. yeah bisi has done some remarkable things with those small motors...being also a member of dseries.org and alternatinvehonda.org i do have the pleasure of reading his posts from time to time. have any of you seen his multi stepped header design?

You must be speaking of the headers that look like a large pile of snakes and have the colector over the transmition instead of going under the oil pan... Yea, I seen them. Whats the price tag on one of those?! Last time I looked it was like $1000 or so, gone down any?

Bottom line is you can't.

What I find interesting is that Mugen could only get 215 NA out of the ZC running reinforced internals etc.

Personally I've given up caring as I'm too far away from you guys to find out the truth - and hell, if a Swedish CAI can give you 14s on a stock D16, who am I to question
