D15b SOHC VTEC?

Anyone have any information on this one? I've started seeing it pop up on motor broker websites claiming 130hp engine from a d15b? I've never seen any specs on this one before, the only 1.5 liter SOHC VTEC engine I can think of is the 93-95 Civic VX (with economy VTEC) and I thought it was only somewhere around 115hp.

Could somebody shed some light on this?

There are some real fallacies in that document

SiR fuel consumption depends on how you put the boot in - as with any engine. On the freeway I get 7 liters per 100kms - exactly the same as the twin-carb D15B (and no, it isn't an inefficient engine). Around 10 in the city, rising to 15 if I'm perpetually hitting redline. But you don't activate VTEC all the time if you're driving normally. Haven ridden in a stock import EG6 SiR II I can say that the suspension is only mildly stiffer than the domestics and ummm... it seats 5 (unless it had the Aussie middle seat-belt fitted after import - unlikely given our ADRs).

130ps or approx 128bhp is the correct figure - minus ancilleries such as aircon belts, alternator, power steering belts, water pump etc.

I read on another forum cuz I wanted to do this too, but this guy was able to boost that puppy at around 8psi safely and ran it at 10psi for a bit. But they dyno'd it at 8psi with some SiR cams or sumthing and everything else stock and he laid down 202whp!!!! WHP!!!! Not too fukin bad for a d15b!!! I called our local engine supplier and they are fuking cheap motors too!!!

the JDM D15B SOHC VTEC and the USDM D15Z1 SOHC VTEC-e actually have a different rod than the rest of its 1.5L counterparts. They actually have a rod similar to the 1.6L engines, only a shorter piston.

As far as the crank journals go, im not sure if they still share in the 1.5L small bearing design...

Re: D15b SOHC VTEC?

it's obvious you guys need to find new places to learn about the d15b.....that link about the 3-stage v-tec is cool, but the guys doesn't have a 3 stage vtec....you can tell in the pics....only one vtec solenoid. That means it's 2 stage. He has awesome results and I'm glad I have the same engine as him but just don't believe everything you see on the internet.....just get the d15b and enjoy!
