Angry 97 blazer...4wd handle does nothing

I have the 97 and it was raining pretty hard today so I proceed to put it into 4 hi and nothing happened...its the model with the handle on the floor. The handle moves from front to rear and does nothing..it feels like it is not connected to anything to me. 4hi 4low nuetral...all the same.

So the main question is....is this a common problem?
I do most all my work , so can I do it myself....I do not have engine or tranny dropping skills...but do everything else myself.
Or should I not care....

I searched this forum and found no other simular questions with the same year as mine.....but I found the fix to my flickering headlight problem though...I love this site.

Talking found the problem..

fuck it I went out and crawled under the car and had the kid pull the 4wd shifter...and noticed nothing moved....so I jumped inside and literally grabbed that cover and pulled it up....but the hulk shit didnt kick in...so I looked dumb cuz it only came up part way

So i cooled down..pulled the c clip on the handle..lifted it off...and bamn...thar she was.....a
fucken cable not connected to the handle....cheap as chevy plastic retainer clip broke off...I will use steel c clip and be good to go...even the one on the bottom is broke to...the cable falls off the 4wd tranny....lame....they should use the same plastic they made GIJoe with in the 80s....that shit was indestructable
