My 1996 Grand Am will not stay started!!
I need some help!!
My car died on me yesterday, and when I went to start it back up it started and then immediatly died again!! We thought it may have been the fuel filter, but that wasn't it - it still starts and dies. Does anyone have any suggestions on what it could be? Thanks Kelli |

Do you have any lights on, on the dash that are normally out? Like the security light. If you give the car extra gas pedal does it stay running?

All the lights that are normally on are still on - nothing looks any different.
I am not able to give it gas. It dies right after it starts up. |

It might be your fuel pump.

I've been having the same problems myself...my car is at 129,000 miles and it dies out when its at an idle position, has trouble cold starting and dies out in passing gear or on long trips (over say, 10 miles). It started out as a bad throttle sensor and went down from there,....Ive spent nearly $2000 over the summer to get it fixed, and it has went to several mechanics to figure out whats wrong with it (even a GMC dealership couldnt figure it out). I replaced most parts of the ignition system, the plugs, boots, coils, housing assembly, module...even replaced all 4 injectors and still have the same problem....any ideas?
