I,m new, be patient please. BAD Mileage!!

I just bought a 96 GSR it has 52k and runs great. No oil burn, starts well, everything seems great but I'm only getting 18 mpg!!! Most of this was highway too. Man this thing seems to be geared low. Is that normal? About 5k rpm at 85 mph? The only mod I can see is a cone filter. The filter box is gone. Also, when I turn the key I get 10 flashes from the maint reqd light. I was told this meant the intake sensor is bad, is this correct, could this f up my mileage?? THANKS for any help!!!

I think that it just means your car is getting close to a certain mileage where scheduled maintnence should be done.

to check codes you need to get a jumper and put it inbetween the 2 terminals in the (probably light blue) 2pin plug on the pass. side, above the kick panel. then you turn your kewy on and see how many times it flashes. long lights are 10, short are 1, add it up and then check, and if more than one code is being thrown then there is a delay between each code, but if your CEL isnt on I dont think it would throw any codes.
