ECU Code 17

yea, i FINALLY got my CRX back from getting the engine replaced with the same engine i had. We were driving the car home (i was in my pontiac, the guy was driving my CRX) and he pulled over n' told me the check engine light came on n' he didn't know why. So he then goes to the ECU n' reads the # of times it blinks. He counted 17. We go to the library and find out it's about the speedometer......n' then he tells me "oh yea, your speedometer doesn't work..." Then Check Engine light only came on one time, and never came on again. I haven't gotten to drive the car yet cuz he took his battery and now i have to go to Autozone to get my battery recharged. So...how would i fix this code 17 problem if it really is true that my speedometer isn't working.

it's possible the speedo wasn't hooked back up or the clip fell off. if the speedo worked before then it's just simply not hooked up. since the engine was replaced there is no reason it sound be disconnected from the dash. most likely over looked on the tranny side

either that or he screwed up the cable, may have to buy a new one. if you dont know where its at, let me know and ill take a picture of its location for you, the clip looks like an omega and one of the legs goes in the slot if it is in properly. the easiest way to put it in is to put the cable all the way down in its whole, get the clip where its supposed to go, then pull the cable slowly upward till it clicks in place

thanks guys. Yesterdsay i asked this one guy to come show me how to fix it n' he explained the crap to me. then he pushed the cable in and it worked. but i guess it's not clipped in because the check engine light comes on once in awhile still, giving me the same ECU Code.
