First off hey to everyone since Im new here. I am going to be turning 16 in November. Well, some of my friends have Mustang GTs and one even has a 98 corvette. Well, they are all waiting for me to get a car so we can take it the drag strip and race em. Well, my parents arent buying me a corvette or mustang gt. I am having to pay for this myself, and I am thinking about getting a CRX. I was wondering if these cars would have the potential for being able to beat the GTs. My father is a mechanic, but myself I am new to cars, but I am really eager to learn everything I can. I have done alot of reading on the inner workings of cars and such. If I was to get a CRX would it be better to get a Si, HF, or DX? Any of these I was thinking of maybe putting an Integra GSR engine in it? Would this help me get there? Any information would be greatly appreciated

If you're talkin' about the newer style Mustang GT's, I can kick their ass. If you're talkin' about 5.0 Mustangs, I can win, but only if they aren't too beefed up. All I did to my car was an engine swap, I installed a b16 into my CRX. It's the most common swap for CRXs, and can be done for around $2000. You should look into getting an Si, and you should be able to get one in decent shape for $2000 or less.

IMO....if u plan on doing a B18c1 swap....it wouldn't matter to me which CRX trim i had....but the SI is the best b/c itz the highest trim level for the CRX...

Thanks for the info. I am thinking of going with either the JDM B18C, B18C1. Does either of these hold out more reliably, and could they handle putting turbo on them?

as far as i know...every honda engine is reliable....but for turboing...i've heard that the b18c1 and ls/vtec engines were the 2 best...

I've looked at some of the B16A3s and I thought about getting one, but I have also read that these arent good for turboing. Since I'll probably getting an 88-91 Si somewhere in there. Someone had told me that putting a B16A3 in there would be easier that putting a B18C1 in the CRX. Is this true? It doesnt really matter exactly what engine I put in to me, but I just want the one that would give me the most power in the long run with forced induction. I have also heard that people saying a B16A3 in the long run would give me more power than a B18 turbo'ed. Any info on this guys?

Just a thought but I think if you are thinking of making it go fast. You are going to want to go with a HF cause it is the lightest car bone stock than the si. Unless you want the sunroof (40lbs or so)and all the trim. You can get one of those cheap Im sure and if you want the tach and all the other crap that weights the car down, buy it later. The hf is I believe about 120 lbs lighter than the si. You are already going to pull the crappy motor and tranny so the shell is what you are really what you are looking at. Just my thoughts

you can easily run low 12's with a turboed B18C. my brother has a b16 in his crx, and it runs 14's bone stock. if he threw a t3/t4 turbo kit on there, he would run 12's, and be able to beat Z06 vette's. your looking on the right track if you wanna beat mustangs. just make sure that you buy the B18c complete swap. axles and everything. make sure it's an uncut harness also. your goin to have to buy mounts from hasport expecially made for that swap, cuz the engine doesn't clear the hood. get the mounts, or your goin to have to get a carbon fiber hood, since it has no webbing. with the gsr engine, you should be able to run about 9 psi safely. anything past that, you should strengthen the internals. look at a T03/T04E turbo. that's a nice small turbo that will spool up quickly. perfect for the 4 cylinder engine. i found a site with a gsr complete swap for 3300, which is a good price. i don't know it right now, since i'm on my buddy's computer, but when i get home, i'll send it to you. good luck, and tell all of us the look on your friend's faces when you smoke them in their mustangs

Project,
Thanks! send me that link up when you get it. I was looking at getting a B16A3. My cousin who is an import fanatic suggested that what I get and we'll turbo it T03/T04E turbo eh? Sounds good to me! I will look into it, and if I have any cash left I might go ahead and strengthen some internals anyway. I soo cannot wait for my friends' faces when their 28k+ V8 Mustangs getting their ass whooped by a little 4-cylinder, and of course I will keep you posted on the looks on their face I am still wondering if I should get the B16A3 or the B18c. Do they basically provide the same power in the end or not?

Yeah, I am glad I am buying my own car. I'd hate seeing my parents buying me a car. 220 whp Niiice I am doing alot of research on engines. This is going to be my pride right here I am so happy though I am buying it myself since its like my first real big buy. Anyway I am still looking is there any turbos that you can recommend

Nobody has said this yet, but you want a B16A1, not an A3. CRXs are set up for a cable clutch. The A3 has a hydrolic clutch, and the A1 has a cable clutch.

What he said. If you're gonna boost it anyway, 1st gen B16. You get the right tranny and ECU when you buy the motor, AND its thousands less than a GSR motor.
