Question How do I get glue off a painted body?

I finished spraying on my last coat of clear paint, and as I was glueing on the tailights, they slipped out of my fingers and landed on the rear trunk of my S2000- now there are little clear red splotches on it!!!
Anyways, I tried rubbing it off with some paint thinner, and then touching it up with some chrome silver... then I used some polish and tried to blend it in with the body. That worked a bit, but I could still see some red. I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this problem???

Thanks.

wet sand the area with 1200 grit, work your way to 2000 if needed, then blend some colors back on

mask other areas if needed, but doing so may create color gaps, so watch out.

Well, it sounds like you've got a good start. I'm not sure I totally understand whether or not it's some red plastic (ie. melted from the glue)that got on the paint, or if the lens was painted red and you just got red paint on the trunk.

If it's just red paint, then I'd keep doing what you're doing until it comes out. However, be careful not to damage the paint/clear around the bad spot. Maybe put some masking tape all around the spot so that when you're rubbing it you don't damage any of the surrounding area?

If it's melted red plastic, then I'd put masking tape all around the area, and lightly sand the spot with fine sandpaper until the bad stuff was gone. You might need to polish the clearcoat underneith a bit when you're done, but that's exactly why clearcoat is good. It's easier to do that than try to fix up the underlying paint.

Maybe others have some suggestions too...

Murray

It was painted clear red.

Thanks for the suggestion.
