It would depend on how much of a fixer-upeer you are talking about.
It would also depend on how much of the work you can do youself. If you take a 3000 dollar 1967 camaro to a shop and have them restore it, you are talking way more money than it would likely be worth in the long run. Of course if you are looking for a "driver" car, then I would think that it would be worth it. I just bought a '68 camaro this weekend and am planning to fix most of it myself. I got lucky and found one that the guy had already done all the engine work. It is a 350, that he said dynoed at 368hp before he put it in the car. It needs a new trunk pan, and floor pans. A mostly new interior too. And a some body work. The body work I can do myself, and the engine is essentially already done. So the big expense for me is going to be upgrading that 35 year old suspension with something a bit more "modern". But it is all personal taste. Do you plan to sell the car? Are you looking to make money? Some people buy a car because they love that kind of car. They spend 10 years building the thing, and never plan to sell it. What is that kind of car worth? |
