Frustrated----> How do you get the shifter off?????

sheesh, that thing is on there, ive tried everything, 2 sets of channel locks in reverse directions, pulling straight up....it just wont come off, im about to hacksaw down the top of it and remove it by the metal sleeve

does it thread on to the shift linkage? is it just threadlock from the factory??
thanks

If your talking about the shift nob you just unthread it, but the shifter itself has C clips holding it down.

I had the same problem on my S14. I had a Momo gear knob on my old car, which I'm still thinking of putting on it, but I can't figure out for the life of me how to get the factory one off. So for the short term, it's staying on.

It's a beast, use 2 hands. You just have to keep turning and turning (counterclockwise). Eventually it will come off, even though it seems like it's not getting any easier. Just think of it as a good workout.

it's on there VERY tight. here's how I took mine off. Put a towel over the shift knob so you don't damage it and then put some vice grips on it. just keep turning that bitch until it comes loose. and like 95_SX_SE said, it will turn but it seems like it's not getting any easier when you turn it. it is loosening though. just keep at it and it will eventually come off.

loctite.

u should put that loctite fluid on when u put the new one on.

it comes in 3 duty levels, heavy being really hard to break the seal off of.

I've tried turning mine multiple times, and I can feel the whole shift leaver twist with it, so like you, I decided it would be best to leave it.

Well... i got mine off...but i destroyed it...heh...the leather was stripping anyway... The bastard just wouldnt turn even with like foot long vice grips on it. After about 10 minutes, the leather on the knob turned without the knob turning, so it was gone then. I tore the cover off and went at the rubber plastic handle the same way...man. it still wouldnt turn a bit... i ended up cutting the plastic knob clean in half with a razor and taking the center spline off with the channel locks where i could actually get enough grip. the momo shifter and boot i got looks pimp

thanks for the help guys
ill post pics soon, but i only know how to post off of a website, not from my hard drive, so it might take a while before i get the pics on my website
