Question Another Keyless Entry Question, With A Twist!

I've just purchased a 1999 Grand Prix GTP, and am absolutely in LOVE with the fool thing.

My quandry, though, is a stumper for me and my circle of friends. Nobody has a clue how to tell me what to look for! I don't KNOW if it has keyless entry or not!

I think it does. Firstly, it darn sure seems to have every other option I can think of. And, the big tipoff, it came with a remote keyfob.

Now, I asked the dealer if it worked, and he said something like, "It might have keyless? If it does, that clicker looks like it's non-standard."

Fine, I figure. If it's aftermarket, it's aftermarket. Otherwise, it might just be a replacement keyfob. He didn't notice the Borla exhaust on the thing, or I'm sure I'd have had a higher charge. (incidentally, it sounds GREAT)

So, Great and Wise AF Gurus, I beseech you! Help me with my two problems, please!

1. How do I tell if I even HAVE it?
2. If I do, how do I reprogram the keyfob to work with my car?

Thanks in advance,

Your Pal, Mr. Cynical

Is there a brand name on the KeyFob??

When I purchased my 98 I was walking out, keys in hand, with the sales guy and asked him what the buttons did. He had no clue and just said to push them. I had remote start, arm/disarm which is also keyless entry and trunk pop.

You should be able to go to a car stereo/alarm shop and see if they could program the keyfob for you, or if you can find out what brand it is you might be able to find intructions for it on the web and do it yourself.

Later,

Tim

Well, I'm looking at the thing right now, and all I see is an 800 number and an FCC ID of some sort.

Aside from that, I see nothing, I hear nothing!

I should have a ton of time left over tomorrow to hit a dealer and have them give it a gander. I just want to do it myself, you know?

Look on your list of option codes;i'ts a stiker ether on your glove box lid or in the trunk on the spare tire lid.Have your dealer look up each code; that will tell you for shure.Being that car and year it had it!!

Well, another day, another blown opportunity to get this taken care of. I was intending on stopping in on my friendly neighborhood dealer to see if they could give me the definite answer...but I had a customer of mine with me. And, to top it off, I had left the keyfob on my computer desk.

Ah well. Perhaps tomorrow!

Ah well. Perhaps tomorrow!
Or tonight, for that matter!

I called up my local dealer, and had them run the VIN to find out if it was a factory option, and it was definitely NOT. So, I'm calling the number on the back of the keyfob to try and go at it from that direction! I'll post as events warrant.
