Reset ECU / Air Intake?
Hey everyone, I got a quick question, stupid as it may be...
When installing an aftermarket air intake that replaces your stock air box, is it necessary to reset your ecu? A guy at a local shop mentioned this to me and I wanted to check the statements validity. The only sense I could make of it is that it might re-calibrate your MAF to work better with the new configuration? Sounds bizarre to me, but I just wanted to be sure I wasn't F*#@'n up my Maxima or miss'n out on some hp. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

i've heard that too. it's bogus. i had an intake on my 95 maxima for 2 years. i had to reset the ecu cuz when i started the car up for the first time the plastic sensor wasn't plugged in right so the MAF wasn't working. the car started for a second then the rpm just dropped to zero and the CEL came on. that was the only instance. any other car i put an intake in(mostly nissans) i had no problems leaving the ecu alone.

resetting the ecu willl only make the computer take longer to learn the car's dynamics all over again.. there is no need to reset it.

no you don't need to reset it after a y pipe either.

Re: Re: Re: Reset ECU / Air Intake?
its not required but is very helpful after doing any mods. i reset mine after i installed my intake and put in a new fuel injector and my redline increased to 6700 from 6400.
must be the ecu reset. i encourage you to do it after any engine modification, i dont care what anyone says ![]() not required but may be helpful performance-wise.
