Question Insurance

Insurance is always gonna be less when you're on your parents policy b/c they can always just set you as a part time driver on that car, but it depends also on your age and how long you've been driving. Pretty much plan on getting screwed on insurance till your are 25 even with a perfect driving record b/c the insurance community sees us under 25 males as irresponsible punks until then and after that we magically change to someone experienced w/selfcontrol behind the wheel. . I'm 23 and just bought a 2003 Anniv Edit GTI and insurance for 6 month for me with a perfect driving record, state minimum limits, and $1000 deductables is over $700 so good luck. Hope this helps.

It really depends on where you live. I pay 4 times as much for insurance than my brother cause I live in the city and he lives in bumblef$$k. Check with a local insurance agent. Make sure to shop around and get the best deal.

tricky insurance

even though the car may be in your dad's name the insurance could go up. this happened to my family when we got our golf. although i am listed as driving my dad's s-10 part time, now since we have 3 cars and 3 drivers they assume i am a full time driver. since im only 17 the insurance went up. so make sure you are listed as a part time driver of the cheapest vehicle even if you arent driving it.

p.s.- your insurance might not do this to you , so you can ignore this if you want.

Re: i have a question

My insurance for being in California and being 18 with a speeding ticket will be 1900/6 months for the gti. There is no difference in whether you get vr6 or 1.8t around here but it deffinately drops if you drop to a golf level (wouldn't suggest it, if you're going to get a golf, go all the way, gti!). And the vr6 isn't too much more so I would do that if you were just goin gto buy it and keep it pretty much stock. If you have $ for upgrades, 1.8t.

Why are you asking us???

Simple...
-Call your insurance company
-Tell them you want to buy a (__fill in blank___) car
-Give them all the details, 96 VW Golf GTI (Red?)Yes red makes a difference that is not a rumor
-Tell them what plan you are on or will be on... "I will be on my parents' plan... their name is________...
-with a few key strokes and a click or the mouse they will tell you exactly how much it will be depending on your parents' plan, your driving record, etc.

-have fun eating rice out there man

factors involved

here are the details they will take in consideration..

Year
Make
Model
Color
Age of driver
History of driver
Co-owner/signers?
Location of car (traffic flow and road hazards, how many accidents happened in the last years in that area and type of environment)
How many cars you have on that plan...
Liability? / Full coverage?
If the car has been hooked up even more than factory or has any kind of custom kits and body work (ie paint, engine, etc.) have a mechanic or appraiser appraise the car for it's actual value, not what the stock kelly blue book is. ((NEED RECEIPTS)) this will increase what you get if it is in an accident, but will also increase monthly payments.

Lightbulb Insurance

Okay, This is for everyone with high insurance..here are the 4 max important criteria that insurance companies look for.

#1-age
#2-what area are you keeping your car in
#3-what's your age
#4-if you drive a 94' or newer car be assumed to get raped legally.

since you're getting a vw jetta, those cars are becoming more common among teenagers. make sure that the car is not red, if the car is red, even if it's 4dr they will make you pay "sports car insurance". your dad does not have to list you on his insurance, if you are listed as a driver and you are between 17-24 you will be getting raped like some r.kelly chick. so dont have him list you on it..you can still drive the damn car mang. and the insurance would be really cheap, and to prove that you can, i got into a hit and run and they looked at my license -- i live in florida and i have a new york license. and then they looked at the insurance policy and they didnt match, and they didnt say shit.

i drive a 98 civic ex -- milano red, i'm paying 160$ a month cuz of a speeding ticket, it comes off in a few weeks so it'll go down. i made the mistake and told the insurance company that it was red. and my mom told them i was 18...but we got the sitaution rectified and i'm now legally 10 years old..lol..anyway, dont go with geico, progressive and shit, contrary to popular belief they're really expensive.
