AEM Cold Air Intake vs AEM V2?

Other than a nice hundred dollar price difference in the V2, does anybody here know anything about the real performance gains the V2 may have? Or is it just a crock'o'crap to get the "V2" version...online place thats selling it has identical descriptions and slogans for each intake, which leads me to believe something weird is going on. Thanks for the help in advance...

oh its a 98 civic EX...mechanic and friends say its vtec'd but its just a regular engine as far as i see....does that make a diff with the intakes?

CAI's are CAI's IMO
There are a couple differences i can think of
2 piece & 1 piece
Plastic or metal
CARB approved(Sticker) usually cost more than CAI's without the sticker
Junk filter, no filter, or good filter like K&N
besides that they are all the same thing an air filter on a pipe.

Yes EX's have vtec.. if u want the better intake from AEM the V2 is worth it. Unless magazines have lied... but i doubt it.

I believe also that since the diameter of the V2 is larger than the original...the capacity of more air is supposed to create more hp...

Regarding truth in magazines...are you talking ad's or articles?

Get a cheap tube and a really good filter. Probably get the same gains but cheaper.

Yeah ... the only difference i heard about the 2 are that the V2 uses a new technology consisting of creating a "tornado" like movement of the air .. meaning that the air enter faster in the intake. BTW the diameter size are nerly the same on both ... the bigger part of the V2 is the thing creating the "tornado" like movement.
Correct me if i'm wrong.

I did my own cold air and i can say it does the same thing as AEM does ... the main difference is ALWAYS the filter ... put a K&N and your set. Even put a K&N on a stock intake and youll achieve pretty good results. Like jackassi said ... its always a filter on a pipe!

LOK out.

Ok I've had a big question about that "tornato" stuff for awhile? I saw that infomercial on late night TV some time ago saying how it would "help performance" so much. But I've had lots of people tell me those things didn't do anything. Wouldn't that be the same concept as this air intake? Maybe I don't understand the full concept of how that would actually force more air into the engine, because it sounds like a RAM air cheat.

Just a thought...

I think an old Sport Compact Car of mine said they do jack shit. Well actually increase gas milage by something close to 1%. But other then that they tested it on a dyno and used a full tank off gas on it and it pretty much did nothing but add weight to the car. I think they used it on an Integra, but my memory is fuzzy and I can't find that mag.

Yeah that's about what I figured, but the question is if the tornado wouldn't do anything, why would this cyclone affect in the V2 make any difference in performance?

Just a thought...

There's no tornado effect. The outer tubing produces soundwaves from incoming air which help "push" it into the manifold. The V2's are dyno proven to provide like 3-4 horsepower over the old aem's on a 2000 DX so they must be worth something on a ballsy n/a setup. Go to www.google.com and type in aem v2 and you'll find more info than you ever wanted to know on them.

Hey thanks Ricochet for the info. I guess I got a little confused on previous posts thinking that this V2 design was something built off the "tornado" device. That's cool, I will hit up google and read more about what it does.
